One Injured in I-20 18-Wheeler Crash at US 287 in Arlington

Wooley Law Takeaway
At least one person was injured in a crash involving an 18-wheeler on I-20 near US 287 in Arlington on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
According to Arlington Police information reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, a passenger vehicle was merging onto I-20 from US 287 when it collided with the 18-wheeler.
The smaller vehicle then became trapped between the semi-trailer and a concrete barrier.
At least one person was injured. Additional information regarding the person’s condition was not immediately available.
Car Became Trapped Between 18-Wheeler and Concrete Barrier
The collision occurred near the busy I-20 and US 287 interchange in Arlington.
Police said the passenger vehicle was entering I-20 from US 287 when it made contact with the tractor-trailer. The vehicle subsequently became pinned between the trailer and the concrete highway barrier.
Crashes of this type can be particularly dangerous because a passenger vehicle may have very little room to escape once it is positioned between a large commercial trailer and a fixed barrier.
Authorities had not publicly released enough information to determine exactly how the vehicles came into contact or which driver had the right-of-way during the merge.
Who Had the Right-of-Way During the Merge?
A collision occurring where one vehicle enters an interstate can require a close examination of the movements of both drivers.
Investigators may need to determine:
where the passenger vehicle entered the highway;
which lane the 18-wheeler occupied;
whether either vehicle changed lanes;
the relative positions of the tractor and trailer;
whether turn signals were being used;
traffic speed and congestion;
whether the truck driver could see the passenger vehicle; and
whether either driver had an opportunity to avoid the collision.
The fact that the passenger vehicle was merging does not, by itself, establish responsibility for the entire crash. Likewise, the involvement of an 18-wheeler does not establish negligence by the truck driver.
The complete sequence must be determined from the evidence.
Trailer Position May Be Important
One important issue in a crash involving the side of an 18-wheeler is that the tractor and trailer do not occupy exactly the same position throughout every maneuver.
A truck driver may believe the tractor has cleared another vehicle while the passenger car remains alongside the trailer.
Investigators may therefore closely examine scrape marks, crush damage, trailer damage, roadway markings, and the positions of both vehicles after the impact.
The Wooley Law Firm has previously discussed this type of evidence in our article about an 18-wheeler trapping a vehicle against a concrete barrier.
What Truck Evidence May Help Explain the Crash?
Potentially important evidence may include:
forward-facing and side-facing truck camera footage;
digital mirror or blind-spot camera recordings;
GPS and fleet telematics;
electronic control module data;
electronic logging device records;
truck speed and braking information;
driver statements;
dispatch communications;
inspection and maintenance records;
highway surveillance footage;
dashcam recordings from other motorists; and
physical damage to the car, tractor, trailer, and barrier.
Side-camera or blind-spot information could be especially useful if there is a dispute over when the passenger vehicle became positioned beside the trailer.
Our guide to 18-wheeler lane-change and blind-spot crashes discusses how cameras, mirrors, trailer damage, and electronic records may help reconstruct these collisions.
