Three people, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed after an 18-wheeler left the roadway, rolled over, and struck a large tree in Robertson County Friday night, September 11, 2026.

The crash happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. near FM 485 and Zane Wallace Road, just west of the Hearne city limits and near the municipal airport.

According to Texas DPS, the semi-truck was traveling westbound on FM 485 when it veered onto the grass shoulder, overturned, and hit a tree.

Three People Killed in FM 485 Truck Crash

The driver was identified as Christopher Burton, 37, of Hempstead.

Two passengers were also killed: Gina Jones, 40, of College Station, and a 12-year-old girl.

DPS said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The 18-wheeler was reportedly hauling livestock at the time.

First responders from Hearne, Calvert, Gause, and Bryan assisted at the scene, along with Robertson County law enforcement and EMS.

What Caused the 18-Wheeler to Leave the Roadway?

DPS has not yet publicly explained why the semi left the roadway.

That will likely be a central question in the investigation.

Depending on the evidence, investigators may examine the truck's speed, steering inputs, tire condition, braking system, road and shoulder conditions, cargo movement, driver fatigue, distraction, or a possible mechanical problem.

Because this was a single-vehicle commercial truck crash, evidence from the tractor-trailer itself may be especially important.

Evidence After a Fatal 18-Wheeler Rollover

Potentially important evidence may include:

  • Electronic control module or “black box” data

  • Electronic logging-device records

  • Onboard truck camera footage

  • GPS and telematics information

  • Driver hours-of-service records

  • Brake, tire, steering, and suspension maintenance records

  • Livestock loading and weight information

  • Dispatch communications

  • Crash-scene photographs and measurements

  • Tire marks and shoulder evidence

  • Final vehicle position

  • Autopsy and toxicology information, when relevant

The fact that the truck left the roadway and rolled does not, by itself, establish what caused the crash or who may bear legal responsibility.

The Wooley Law Firm represents people injured in Texas 18-wheeler and commercial truck accidents, including fatal truck rollovers and other serious commercial vehicle crashes throughout Texas.

Passenger Claims After a Single-Vehicle Truck Crash

Because the two passengers were traveling in the 18-wheeler, the legal issues may differ from a typical collision between two vehicles.

Depending on the facts, an investigation may need to determine whether the driver was operating the truck for a motor carrier, whether the passengers were employees or authorized occupants, whether a mechanical defect contributed, and what insurance coverage applies.

A single-vehicle crash can still involve potential claims against a driver, trucking company, maintenance provider, cargo-loading entity, or another party if the evidence supports liability.

Lost a Loved One in a Texas 18-Wheeler Crash?

If your family lost someone in a Robertson County 18-wheeler crash, Hearne truck accident, FM 485 wreck, or another fatal commercial vehicle collision, you may have legal options depending on the evidence.

Certain surviving family members may also have rights under Texas wrongful death law.

A truck accident lawyer can investigate electronic truck data, maintenance records, driver logs, cargo information, onboard video, crash-scene evidence, and available insurance coverage to determine why the truck left the roadway.

Lubbock Woman Dies After Falling From Semi-Truck Cab in East Lubbock

A 40-year-old Lubbock woman has died from injuries she suffered after falling from the side of a moving semi-truck cab in east Lubbock on Monday night, October 26, 2026. Police identified the woman as Rosalinda Gonzalez. Lubbock police initially reported that officers responded at approximately 9:07 p.m. to the 1300 block of East Rice Street, near Magnolia Avenue, after receiving a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a semi-truck. Gonzalez suffered serious injuries and was transported to University Medical Center. A subsequent report states that she later died from those injuries. The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating. What Happened in the East Lubbock Semi-Truck Crash? According to the preliminary police investigation, Gonzalez was holding onto the outside of the cab of a semi-truck driven by 35-year-old Lloyd King. Police said the truck was traveling south on North Oak Avenue. As the semi turned west onto East Rice Street, Gonzalez reportedly fell from the vehicle. Authorities have not publicly explained why Gonzalez was on the outside of the truck before she fell. The circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation. Why This Semi-Truck Fatality Requires Further Investigation This is not a typical pedestrian-versus-truck collision. Because police say Gonzalez was holding onto the exterior of the truck immediately before she fell, investigators may need to determine how she came to be in that position, whether the truck driver knew she was there, and what occurred before the truck began moving or turning. Potential issues may include: What happened immediately before the semi began moving Whether the driver knew Gonzalez was holding onto the truck How long she had been on the exterior of the cab The truck’s speed before and during the turn Statements from the driver and witnesses Surveillance or dash-camera footage Communications involving the driver before the incident Whether other people witnessed what happened No final determination of responsibility has been publicly announced. Video Evidence Could Be Especially Important Because this incident occurred near an intersection in east Lubbock, investigators may look for surveillance footage from nearby businesses, residences, traffic cameras, or other vehicles. Video could help establish when Gonzalez approached the semi, how she came to be holding onto the cab, when the truck began moving, and the circumstances of her fall. Potential evidence may include: Commercial-truck dash-camera footage Nearby surveillance video Traffic-camera footage GPS and telematics records Electronic truck data Witness cellphone video Police body-camera footage Statements from the truck driver and other witnesses Some video and electronic evidence can be overwritten with time, making preservation important after a serious commercial vehicle incident. Commercial Truck Records May Also Matter Once a semi-truck is involved in a fatal incident, the motor carrier may possess records relevant to the investigation. Depending on the circumstances, those records may include driver qualification information, dispatch communications, GPS data, electronic logging-device records, company policies, and other documents concerning operation of the truck. Whether any of those records ultimately bear on this incident will depend on what investigators determine. Wrongful Death Claims After a Texas Commercial Truck Incident When someone dies in an incident involving a commercial vehicle, certain surviving family members may have rights under Texas wrongful-death law if the evidence establishes that another person or company’s wrongful conduct contributed to the death. A wrongful-death investigation may examine not only the truck driver’s actions but also whether a trucking company or another party had responsibility for the circumstances surrounding the incident. Depending on the evidence, damages available under Texas law may include losses associated with financial support, companionship, mental anguish, and other legally recoverable damages. A separate survival claim may also exist depending on the circumstances. The fact that a commercial truck was involved does not by itself establish liability. How a Texas Truck Wreck Lawyer Can Investigate a Fatal Semi-Truck Incident A commercial truck case may require prompt preservation of electronic and company evidence. A Dallas truck accident lawyer handling a Texas truck case may seek available video, electronic truck data, GPS records, dispatch communications, witness statements, police investigative materials, and information identifying the motor carrier and its insurance coverage. An independent investigation may also help answer questions that are not resolved by the initial police report. Lost a Family Member in a Texas Commercial Truck Incident? If your family lost a loved one in an incident involving a commercial truck, The Wooley Law Firm can investigate what happened, work to preserve available electronic and company evidence, identify potentially responsible parties, and evaluate the insurance coverage and claims available under Texas law. 18-Wheeler Crash Causes Fuel Spill on Loop 410 Near New Sulphur Springs Road in San Antonio

An 18-wheeler crash on Loop 410 near New Sulphur Springs Road on San Antonio’s Southeast Side caused a fuel spill and significant traffic problems Thursday, October 29, 2026. Emergency crews responded to the commercial truck wreck while authorities worked to contain and clean up the spilled fuel. The collision affected traffic in the area near Loop 410 and New Sulphur Springs Road, a heavily traveled corridor on the Southeast Side. Additional details about possible injuries and what caused the 18-wheeler to crash have not yet been released. What Happened in the Loop 410 18-Wheeler Crash? The wreck occurred near Loop 410 and New Sulphur Springs Road in San Antonio. Initial reporting indicates that the commercial truck crashed and spilled fuel onto or near the roadway, requiring an emergency cleanup response. Fuel spills can extend the time needed to reopen lanes because responders may need to contain the diesel, remove contaminated material, inspect the roadway, and safely recover the tractor-trailer. At this time, investigators have not publicly determined what caused the crash. Why a Fuel-Spill Truck Crash Requires a Detailed Investigation An 18-wheeler crash involving a diesel spill can raise questions about both the collision and the condition of the commercial vehicle. Depending on the circumstances, investigators may examine: The truck’s speed before the crash Driver steering and braking Driver distraction or fatigue Tire and brake condition Tractor and trailer maintenance Fuel-tank damage Whether another vehicle contributed Roadway and weather conditions Cargo weight and distribution None of these factors has been established as the cause of this particular wreck. Electronic Truck Evidence May Help Explain the Crash Commercial trucks often contain electronic information that can help reconstruct what happened. Potentially important evidence may include: Electronic control module data GPS and telematics information Dash-camera footage Electronic logging-device records Driver hours-of-service information Dispatch communications Maintenance and inspection records Post-crash mechanical inspections This information may help determine the truck’s speed, braking, movements, and operation immediately before impact. Fuel Spills Can Create Additional Hazards A commercial truck fuel spill can create risks beyond the collision itself. Diesel or other vehicle fluids may make pavement slippery, create fire concerns, require environmental cleanup, and lead to prolonged road closures. Investigators may also document damage to the truck’s fuel tanks and determine how the spill occurred. Who May Be Responsible After a San Antonio 18-Wheeler Wreck? Responsibility in a commercial truck crash can extend beyond the individual driver. Depending on what the investigation shows, potentially responsible parties may include the truck driver, motor carrier, tractor or trailer owner, maintenance company, cargo company, or another motorist. No determination of responsibility has been made in this crash. How a Texas Truck Wreck Lawyer Can Help A Dallas truck accident lawyer handling a Texas commercial truck case can work to preserve evidence before it disappears. Depending on the circumstances, that investigation may include obtaining electronic truck data, identifying the motor carrier, reviewing driver and maintenance records, requesting dash-camera footage, inspecting the tractor and trailer, locating witnesses, and identifying commercial insurance coverage.
