Three people were hospitalized after an 18-wheeler overturned during a six-vehicle collision on the Dallas North Tollway near Northwest Highway/Loop 12 in Dallas on Friday, September 25, 2026.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded at approximately 11:08 a.m. Authorities ultimately confirmed that the crash involved the 18-wheeler and five other vehicles.
The tractor-trailer overturned after the collision and spilled approximately 170 gallons of diesel fuel, prompting a HazMat response. The truck also spilled other fluids, including cooking oil being transported in the trailer.
The three people taken to hospitals were reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
18-Wheeler Collided With Five Other Vehicles
The wreck occurred on the Dallas North Tollway near Northwest Highway, also known as Loop 12.
Initial 911 reports indicated that numerous vehicles may have been involved. Dallas Fire-Rescue later confirmed the final count as six vehicles total, including the 18-wheeler.
The semi reportedly struck multiple vehicles before hitting a wall and overturning.
Authorities had not publicly determined what caused the sequence of collisions.
About 170 Gallons of Diesel Spilled
The overturned truck's saddle tanks ruptured during the crash, releasing approximately 170 gallons of diesel fuel onto the Tollway.
The trailer also reportedly spilled cooking oil and other fluids.
Dallas Fire-Rescue sent a HazMat team to the scene, and the North Texas Tollway Authority took responsibility for the remaining cleanup.
Fuel and cargo spills can substantially complicate a commercial-truck crash because responders must address environmental and fire hazards in addition to treating injured people, documenting the crash scene, and removing damaged vehicles.
Three People Hospitalized
Authorities confirmed that three people were transported to hospitals following the crash.
Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and all three were reported in stable condition.
Officials had not publicly identified which vehicles the injured people occupied.
Dallas North Tollway Lanes Closed After the Crash
The collision caused substantial traffic disruption along the Tollway.
At one point, all southbound lanes between Walnut Hill Lane and Northwest Highway were closed while crews investigated the crash and cleaned the diesel spill.
Reporting also indicated that traffic in the opposite direction was temporarily affected during the response.
The extensive closure does not itself indicate the seriousness of the injuries. Much of the response was necessary because of the overturned tractor-trailer, damaged vehicles, and large fuel spill.
What Evidence May Explain a Six-Vehicle 18-Wheeler Crash?
A six-vehicle commercial-truck collision can require a detailed reconstruction to determine the order in which the impacts occurred.
Potential evidence may include:
the 18-wheeler's electronic control module or “black box” data;
dashcam and onboard camera footage;
GPS and telematics records;
electronic logging device information;
driver hours-of-service records;
dispatch communications;
brake, tire, and maintenance records;
North Texas Tollway Authority traffic-camera footage;
911 recordings;
witness statements;
photographs and measurements from the crash scene; and
electronic data from the passenger vehicles involved.
Investigators may need to determine whether the truck struck the first vehicle and triggered a chain reaction, whether several separate impacts occurred, and what each vehicle was doing immediately before the crash.
Our article on I-30 multi-vehicle 18-wheeler wrecks and chain-reaction crashes explains why the vehicle that physically hits an injured person may not necessarily be the vehicle that started a multi-car collision.
Truck and Cargo Records May Also Matter
Because the tractor-trailer was carrying cargo and suffered a significant spill, investigators may also examine:
what the truck was carrying;
how the cargo was loaded and secured;
the tractor and trailer owners;
the motor carrier operating the truck;
maintenance responsibility;
the driver's employer; and
available commercial insurance coverage.
The fact that the 18-wheeler overturned and struck other vehicles does not, by itself, establish negligence by the truck driver or motor carrier. Responsibility should be determined from the complete evidence.

Major Crash on Northbound Loop 12 at I-30 in Dallas Closes Three Lanes During Morning Commute
A major car wreck on northbound Loop 12 at Interstate 30 (Tom Landry Freeway) in Dallas caused significant traffic delays early Thursday morning, October 15, 2026. The collision was verified at approximately 5:07 a.m. Traffic information showed the left shoulder and three northbound lanes closed, leaving only limited lanes available while emergency crews responded. Additional information about the vehicles involved and possible injuries has not yet been released. What Happened in the Loop 12 and I-30 Crash in Dallas? The major collision occurred on northbound Loop 12 at I-30, one of the major highway connections serving Dallas and the surrounding area. With three travel lanes and the left shoulder blocked, motorists traveling northbound on Loop 12 during the Thursday morning commute could encounter substantial congestion. At this time, authorities have not released information explaining how the wreck occurred, how many vehicles were involved, or whether anyone was seriously injured. Because this is a developing Dallas traffic incident, no conclusions should be drawn about fault until investigators determine the sequence of events. Evidence After a Serious Dallas Highway Wreck Determining what caused a serious highway collision can require more than the initial police crash report. Evidence that may help establish how the Loop 12 wreck occurred includes: Dash-camera recordings from vehicles involved in or near the crash TxDOT or other traffic-camera footage Nearby business surveillance video Photographs and video of the crash scene Vehicle damage and final resting positions Event data recorder information from the vehicles Witness statements Tire marks, debris, and other roadway evidence Cellphone records when legally relevant Video evidence can be particularly valuable after a collision near a major interchange such as Loop 12 and I-30, where vehicles may be merging, changing lanes, or positioning themselves for highway connections. Who May Be Responsible for a Dallas Car Accident? Liability depends on the evidence showing how the collision occurred. A driver may potentially be responsible if evidence establishes that unsafe speed, following too closely, distracted driving, an unsafe lane change, failure to maintain a single lane, or another negligent act caused the crash. Some Dallas highway wrecks involve more than one potentially responsible driver. A detailed investigation can help determine the sequence of impacts rather than relying solely on competing statements made after the collision. Why Early Investigation Matters After a Dallas Car Wreck Important evidence can disappear quickly after a highway accident. Vehicles are removed, debris is cleared, witnesses leave the scene, and some video recordings may eventually be overwritten. When injuries are serious or liability is disputed, preserving available evidence early can make it easier to reconstruct what happened. An attorney investigating a Dallas car accident may seek traffic-camera footage, vehicle data, witness information, photographs, medical records, insurance information, and other evidence necessary to evaluate the claim.
