A fire at a Mesquite apartment complex caused part of the roof to collapse Wednesday afternoon, according to NBC DFW. The fire happened at the Westover on 80 apartment complex in Mesquite. The Mesquite Fire Department responded around 12:20 p.m. after reports of a fire. A fire official said the one-alarm fire started in the attic and spread through the roof, causing part of the roof to collapse. Nine apartment units were damaged or destroyed. No injuries were reported, but several residents were displaced. The American Red Cross is helping affected residents, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Apartment fires can leave families suddenly without a safe place to live, clothing, furniture, personal belongings, medications, documents, and other necessities. Even when no injuries are reported, residents may still face smoke exposure, emotional distress, property loss, temporary housing expenses, and questions about whether the fire could have been prevented. A Mesquite apartment fire should be investigated carefully. Key questions may include whether the fire involved electrical issues, attic wiring, maintenance problems, building code violations, defective smoke alarms, delayed repairs, unsafe conditions, or failures by property owners or managers to protect residents. Critical evidence may include the fire investigation report, maintenance records, tenant complaints, inspection records, smoke alarm records, electrical records, photographs, surveillance video, witness statements, lease documents, prior repair requests, and communications with apartment management. Report Reveals Details of Dallas Apartment Explosion

Federal investigators released an initial report on the deadly Dallas apartment explosion in Oak Cliff, and the report raises serious questions about gas line marking, excavation safety, and accountability. According to CBS Texas, the National Transportation Safety Board’s initial report states that the gas line struck before the explosion was not marked. The explosion happened just after 1:00 p.m. on May 28, 2026, at The Clyde apartment building in Oak Cliff. Three people were killed, at least six others were injured, and nearby homes and apartments were evacuated. CBS reported that a Texas 811 ticket had been submitted before the digging project. Texas 811 is the system excavators are required to use before digging so underground utility lines can be identified and marked. According to the NTSB report, some gas lines were marked, but the location of the service line that was struck had not been identified and marked. This is a devastating tragedy for the families who lost loved ones, the residents who were injured, and everyone forced from their homes. A deadly gas explosion case must be handled with compassion and care, but it must also be investigated aggressively. Families deserve answers about why the gas line was not marked, who was responsible for locating it, who performed the excavation work, and whether this explosion could have been prevented. Critical evidence may include Texas 811 tickets, utility locate records, gas line maps, contractor records, excavation logs, photographs from the jobsite, communications between contractors and utilities, maintenance records, prior leak reports, emergency response records, fire investigation findings, NTSB findings, and witness statements. Potential responsibility may involve multiple parties, including utility companies, excavation contractors, locating companies, property owners, property managers, maintenance companies, and others involved in the work or response. In a catastrophic gas explosion case, every responsible party should be identified and held accountable.
