A truck driver had to be cut from the wreckage of his cab after two 18-wheelers collided on U.S. 59 south of Diboll in Polk County early Wednesday morning, August 19, 2026.
According to a preliminary Texas DPS investigation reported by KTRE, a 1991 International pulling a flatbed trailer was traveling south and attempting to use a crossover to head north. Investigators say the truck entered the path of a northbound 2024 Freightliner pulling a box trailer, resulting in a collision. DPS preliminarily reported that the International failed to yield at a yield sign.
The Freightliner driver, identified by the Lufkin Fire Department as Adoloph Ross of Elm Grove, Louisiana, became trapped inside the heavily damaged cab. Steel poles from the wreck complicated the rescue. Firefighters said Ross remained conscious and able to communicate with crews while they worked to free him.
After an extraction lasting about 90 minutes, Ross was flown to a Houston hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Heavy Rescue Required After the Truck Crash
The response involved the Lufkin Fire Department's Special Operations team along with Diboll, Livingston and Corrigan firefighters, EMS personnel, DPS troopers, TxDOT and local wreckers. Rescue crews had to carefully lift material resting around the damaged cab before the driver could be removed.
A rescue operation of this complexity underscores how violent commercial-truck collisions can be even when the person trapped ultimately survives.
The Yield and Turning Maneuver Will Be Central to the Investigation
Based on the preliminary DPS account, investigators will likely focus closely on the movement of the International as it attempted to change direction through the crossover.
Important questions may include the truck's position before the turn, the approaching Freightliner's speed and distance, available sight lines, traffic-control signs, and whether either driver had enough time to brake or take evasive action.
The preliminary finding that one truck failed to yield is significant, but final responsibility should still be based on the complete investigation rather than an early crash summary.
Commercial-Truck Evidence Should Be Preserved
Because two tractor-trailers were involved, potentially important evidence may exist outside the physical crash scene.
That evidence can include:
Electronic control module data
Dashcam footage
GPS and telematics records
Driver logs and hours-of-service information
Dispatch communications
Pre-trip inspection records
Maintenance and repair history
Trailer and cargo information
Driver qualification records
Crash-scene photographs and measurements

Tanker Truck Rollover Causes Oil Spill and HazMat Response in Midland
A collision involving a tanker truck carrying hazardous material caused a major emergency response and roadway closure on State Highway 349 in Midland. The crash reportedly involved three vehicles near Highway 349 and County Road 173. The tanker overturned during the collision, prompting a hazardous-materials response and the closure of the roadway while emergency crews worked to secure the scene. At least one person was transported to a hospital following the crash. Additional information about the extent of the injuries has not been released. What Happened in the Midland Tanker Truck Crash? Initial reports indicate that three vehicles were involved in the collision and that one of the vehicles was a tanker carrying an acidic material. The tanker overturned, creating concerns about a potential hazardous-material spill. Highway 349 was shut down while emergency responders addressed the crash, assisted those involved, and worked to contain the hazardous material. Authorities had not yet released complete information explaining how the collision occurred or which vehicle initiated the sequence of events. Because the investigation remains ongoing, no conclusions should be drawn about fault. Why Tanker Truck Wrecks Require a Different Investigation A tanker-truck collision can involve issues that do not arise in an ordinary 18-wheeler wreck. In addition to determining how the vehicles collided, investigators may need to examine the tanker itself, the hazardous cargo, how it was loaded, and whether the driver and carrier complied with applicable safety requirements. Potentially important evidence may include: Tanker and tractor inspections Shipping papers and hazmat documentation Cargo identification and placards Electronic logging-device records GPS and telematics information Engine control module data Driver qualification and training records Tank inspection and maintenance records Loading records Dash-camera footage Dispatch communications Crash-scene measurements and photographs A tanker should also be inspected before repairs or disposal whenever possible because physical evidence involving valves, the tank shell, brakes, tires, and other components may help determine what happened. Hazardous-Material Tanker Crashes Can Create Additional Risks When a tanker carrying acidic, flammable, toxic, or otherwise hazardous material overturns, the danger may extend beyond the initial impact. A spill can expose motorists, emergency responders, and nearby property to hazardous substances. It can also require specialized cleanup operations and an investigation into the companies responsible for transporting, loading, maintaining, or handling the cargo. Two Semi-Trucks Involved in I-20 Crash at Houston School Road in Dallas
Two semi-trucks were involved in a collision on westbound Interstate 20 at Houston School Road in Dallas Thursday morning, October 8, 2026. The crash was reported at approximately 9:50 a.m. Additional information about lane closures, injuries, and the circumstances leading to the collision has not yet been released. What Happened in the I-20 Truck Crash at Houston School Road? At this time, it is not clear how the two semi-trucks collided or whether any passenger vehicles were also involved. Because the wreck involved two commercial trucks, investigators may need to examine evidence from both tractor-trailers to determine the sequence of events and whether either driver or motor carrier contributed to the crash. No conclusions should be drawn about fault until the investigation is complete. Evidence That May Matter After a Two-Truck Collision Commercial truck crashes can involve substantial amounts of electronic and company-maintained evidence. Potentially important information may include: Dash-camera and onboard video Electronic logging-device records GPS and telematics data Engine control module information Driver hours-of-service records Dispatch communications Tractor and trailer inspection records Maintenance histories Cargo and loading information Crash-scene photographs and measurements Witness statements When two semi-trucks are involved, preserving records from both trucking companies can be important because each vehicle may contain evidence showing speed, braking, lane position, and driver activity before impact. Why Early Investigation Matters After an 18-Wheeler Wreck Commercial trucks may be repaired and returned to service after a collision, and electronic data may not be preserved indefinitely. A prompt investigation can help document the physical condition of both trucks and identify available video, telematics, driver logs, and other records before evidence is lost or overwritten. 3 Killed, 3 Critically Injured in Head-On Crash on SH 105 Near Navasota
Three people were killed and three others were critically injured in a head-on collision on State Highway 105 southwest of Navasota Thursday evening. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash involved an SUV and a passenger car on the Washington County side of SH 105 near the Brazos River. DPS said a vehicle was attempting to pass in a no-passing zone before the collision. Three critically injured people were transported by helicopter to a hospital. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred near the Washington-Grimes County line. SH 105 remained closed while troopers investigated the scene. What Happened in the Fatal SH 105 Crash Near Navasota? The collision happened Thursday evening on SH 105 near the Brazos River. DPS reported that the crash involved an SUV and a car and said that an attempted pass in a no-passing zone contributed to the wreck. Three people died, while three others suffered critical injuries requiring helicopter transport to a hospital. Authorities had not yet released the identities of those involved or a complete reconstruction of the crash. Why Passing-Zone Evidence May Matter In a serious head-on collision, investigators may examine whether one vehicle crossed into an opposing lane and, if so, why. Potentially important evidence may include: Roadway centerline and no-passing-zone markings Vehicle damage and final resting positions Skid marks and debris patterns Dash-camera or surveillance footage Witness statements Electronic vehicle data Cellphone records when relevant Crash-scene measurements and photographs If investigators determine that a driver attempted to pass where passing was prohibited, that evidence may become important in evaluating civil liability. However, the full circumstances of this crash remain under investigation. Head-On Collisions Can Involve Severe Injuries Head-on crashes can be especially dangerous because the forces from two vehicles traveling in opposite directions may combine at impact. In addition to fatalities, survivors of serious head-on collisions may suffer traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, fractures, internal injuries, and other conditions requiring extensive medical treatment. Wrongful Death Claims After a Fatal Texas Crash When a person is killed because of another driver’s negligence, certain surviving family members may have potential rights under Texas wrongful-death law. A civil investigation can be separate from the DPS investigation and may examine roadway evidence, vehicle data, available video, witness testimony, insurance coverage, and other information needed to determine how the collision occurred.
