A Texas family captured a frightening 18-wheeler crash on Interstate 35 north of Ardmore, Oklahoma, after a semi-truck crossed the median, entered oncoming traffic, and rolled over.
Ed Dehoyos told KFOR that he was driving his family home to Texas Sunday afternoon after taking his daughter to an University of Oklahoma cheer clinic. About an hour into their trip, shortly after 3:00 p.m., he saw the semi cross the I-35 median directly toward opposing traffic.
Dash-camera video captured a vehicle ahead of Dehoyos swerving to avoid the truck. A pickup traveling in front of his vehicle was unable to completely avoid the 18-wheeler and was clipped as the truck and trailer crossed the highway. Dehoyos narrowly avoided the trailer as it swept across the roadway.
KFOR contacted the Oklahoma Highway Patrol seeking information about what caused the crash and the condition of the truck driver, but those details had not yet been released when the report was published.
What Happened in the I-35 18-Wheeler Crash Near Ardmore?
According to the eyewitness account and dash-camera footage, the semi was traveling on I-35 when it crossed the median into opposing traffic.
Dehoyos described seeing the truck cross the median before hearing the impact and scraping as the crash unfolded. His family was able to avoid being struck directly, although the pickup immediately ahead of them was clipped.
The circumstances that caused the truck to leave its side of I-35 remain unknown.
Why Did the 18-Wheeler Cross the Median?
That is one of the most important unanswered questions.
When a commercial truck unexpectedly leaves its lanes and crosses a highway median, investigators may examine several possibilities, including:
Tire or wheel failure
Steering or suspension problems
Brake problems
Driver distraction
Driver fatigue
A sudden evasive maneuver
Cargo movement or instability
Speed and roadway conditions
A medical emergency
There is currently no confirmed evidence establishing that any of these factors caused this particular crash.
Dash-Camera Video May Be Critical Evidence
The dash-camera recording could become especially important because it reportedly captured the 18-wheeler crossing the median and entering opposing traffic.
Video can help investigators determine the truck's movement before the crash, whether another vehicle contributed, how quickly nearby motorists reacted, and the sequence of impacts.
Other important evidence could include the truck's electronic control module data, GPS and telematics information, electronic logging-device records, onboard cameras, maintenance history, driver qualification records, and inspection records.
Why the Tractor and Trailer Should Be Inspected
When an 18-wheeler suddenly leaves the roadway or crosses a median, the physical condition of the commercial vehicle can help determine whether a mechanical problem contributed.
Investigators may need to inspect the truck's:
Tires and wheels
Steering components
Brakes
Suspension
Tractor-to-trailer connection
Trailer and cargo
Electronic systems
Preserving the tractor and trailer before repairs or salvage can be important if mechanical failure later becomes an issue.
A Near Miss Can Still Provide Important Evidence
Although Dehoyos and his family avoided a direct collision, their dash-camera footage and observations could be valuable to investigators and anyone involved in the wreck.
Independent witnesses who were not physically involved in a collision can provide important information because they may have seen the commercial truck before the impact and can describe its movement without relying solely on the accounts of the drivers involved.

Commercial Truck Crash Shuts Down I-10 West Near Beaumont, Texas
A commercial motor vehicle crash shut down westbound Interstate 10 near FM 365 outside Beaumont Friday morning, October 23, 2026, causing major traffic problems along one of Southeast Texas’ busiest trucking corridors. The wreck occurred Friday morning on I-10 West near FM 365, close to Stuckey’s. Authorities stopped westbound traffic near Major Drive while emergency personnel responded farther down the interstate. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the commercial vehicle crash, while the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with traffic control. Earlier information indicated that a box van was involved in the wreck. Authorities had not yet confirmed whether anyone was injured or released additional information explaining how the crash occurred. What Happened in the I-10 Commercial Truck Crash Near FM 365? The collision occurred on westbound I-10 near FM 365 in Jefferson County, west of Beaumont. The crash involved a commercial motor vehicle and resulted in a significant shutdown of westbound I-10. Traffic was stopped around Major Drive as authorities worked at the scene. At this time, investigators have not publicly explained what caused the commercial vehicle to crash or whether another vehicle was involved. Because DPS is still investigating, no conclusion should be drawn about fault until the available physical, electronic, and company evidence is reviewed. Why a Commercial Vehicle Crash Requires More Than a Normal Car-Wreck Investigation A serious commercial truck accident can involve substantially more evidence than an ordinary passenger-vehicle collision. The driver may be operating for an employer or motor carrier. The vehicle may contain electronic tracking information. A company may possess inspection records, maintenance documents, dispatch communications, driver files, and other evidence that can help explain what happened. Depending on the type of commercial vehicle involved, an investigation may need to determine: Who owned the truck or box van Who employed or contracted with the driver Whether the driver was working at the time of the collision Where the vehicle was traveling and why Whether the truck had been properly inspected and maintained Whether cargo was properly loaded and secured Whether the driver was fatigued, distracted, or under time pressure Whether electronic vehicle data recorded speed or braking before impact Whether another motorist contributed to the wreck None of these potential issues has yet been identified as the cause of this I-10 collision. Evidence a Truck Wreck Lawyer May Seek to Preserve Commercial trucking evidence can be particularly important because some records may be routinely overwritten, repaired, discarded, or otherwise become unavailable with time. Depending on the circumstances, evidence after a commercial vehicle wreck may include: Dash-camera footage GPS and telematics records Electronic control module or vehicle data Driver qualification records Driver logs when applicable Dispatch and delivery records Cellphone and communication records when legally relevant Inspection reports Maintenance and repair history Tire and brake records Cargo manifests and loading records Bills of lading or delivery documents Post-crash vehicle inspections Traffic and surveillance video Crash-scene photographs and measurements Witness statements DPS crash-investigation materials Preserving evidence early can become especially important if the trucking company or its insurance carrier begins investigating immediately after the collision. Who Can Be Responsible for a Commercial Truck Wreck in Texas? The commercial driver is not necessarily the only person or company that may bear responsibility for a truck accident. Depending on what caused the collision, potentially responsible parties could include the: Commercial driver Driver’s employer or motor carrier Truck or vehicle owner Maintenance contractor Cargo-loading company Shipper Vehicle or component manufacturer Another negligent driver Determining the correct defendants can require examining contracts, employment information, ownership records, federal motor-carrier information, insurance policies, and the companies involved in operating the vehicle. Why I-10 Truck Wrecks Can Cause Serious Injuries Interstate 10 carries substantial commercial traffic across Texas. Commercial trucks, delivery vehicles, box trucks, tractor-trailers, and other large vehicles regularly share the highway with passenger cars, pickups, SUVs, and motorcycles. When a large commercial vehicle collides with a smaller passenger vehicle, occupants may suffer serious injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, broken bones, internal injuries, neck and back injuries, burns, or permanent impairment. The available information has not confirmed injuries in this particular crash. What Should You Do After a Commercial Truck Accident? People injured in truck wrecks often begin receiving calls from insurance companies before the investigation is complete. The trucking company and its insurer may already be collecting photographs, interviewing the driver, inspecting the commercial vehicle, downloading electronic data, and evaluating potential financial exposure. An injured person should not assume that the trucking company will preserve every piece of evidence indefinitely. A lawyer handling a serious commercial vehicle case may send preservation notices, investigate the companies involved, obtain crash records, locate witnesses, request video, and seek electronic and business records relevant to determining how the wreck occurred. Overturned 18-Wheeler and Hazmat Spill Block I-10 in Houston
An overturned 18-wheeler and hazardous-material spill on westbound Interstate 10 at the I-69/Eastex Freeway interchange in Houston caused major traffic problems Friday morning, October 23, 2026. Houston TranStar reported the heavy-truck crash and hazmat spill at approximately 4:30 a.m. The wreck shut down the right and center westbound lanes of I-10 while emergency crews responded. ABC13’s SkyEye helicopter showed the overturned commercial truck at the scene. Authorities had not yet reported whether anyone was injured or explained what caused the 18-wheeler to overturn. What Happened in the I-10 18-Wheeler Crash in Houston? The commercial truck wreck occurred on westbound I-10 at I-69/Eastex Freeway, one of Houston’s major freeway interchanges. Initial traffic information described the incident as a heavy-truck accident involving a hazardous-material spill. The right and center lanes were closed as crews worked around the overturned truck and spill. The available information does not yet explain whether the truck rolled over after a collision with another vehicle, a sudden steering maneuver, cargo movement, mechanical failure, or another event. No conclusions about fault should be drawn until investigators determine how the truck lost control and why it overturned. Why an Overturned 18-Wheeler Requires a Different Investigation An 18-wheeler rollover is not simply a larger version of an ordinary car wreck. A serious commercial truck accident may require investigators to examine the truck driver, tractor, trailer, cargo, maintenance history, motor carrier, electronic data, and dispatch records. Potential issues in a rollover investigation can include: Speed before the rollover Sudden or unsafe steering movements Unsafe lane changes Tire or brake problems Improperly loaded or shifting cargo Trailer weight and weight distribution Driver fatigue or distraction Road or traffic conditions Prior maintenance problems Whether another vehicle contributed to the crash None of these factors has been established as the cause of this Houston wreck. The Hazmat Spill Could Make Cargo Records Especially Important The reported hazardous-material spill adds another layer to the investigation. Investigators may need to determine what material the truck was carrying, where it was loaded, how it was packaged and secured, and whether the cargo contributed to the rollover or the resulting spill. Potential evidence may include bills of lading, shipping papers, cargo manifests, hazardous-material documentation, loading records, weight tickets, photographs of the load, and communications between the driver, motor carrier, shipper, and receiver. Depending on the facts, responsibility for a truck wreck may extend beyond the driver. Trucking Evidence That Should Be Preserved After an 18-Wheeler Rollover Important evidence can begin disappearing soon after a commercial truck collision. A truck-wreck investigation may seek to preserve: Electronic control module or engine data GPS and telematics records Forward-facing and cab-camera footage Driver logs and hours-of-service information Dispatch communications Driver qualification and training records Tractor and trailer inspection records Maintenance and repair history Tire and brake records Cargo-loading and securement records Bills of lading and shipping documents Post-crash inspection findings Photographs and measurements from the scene Traffic and surveillance video This is one reason truck accident claims can require a substantially different investigation from ordinary passenger-car collisions. Who May Be Responsible for an 18-Wheeler Crash? Liability depends on what the evidence ultimately shows. Potentially responsible parties in a commercial truck case may include the truck driver, motor carrier, tractor or trailer owner, maintenance contractor, cargo-loading company, shipper, another driver, or another company involved in the truck’s operation. A rollover alone does not establish negligence by any particular person or company. The investigation should first determine why the tractor-trailer overturned and whether a safety failure contributed to the crash. Why This Houston Crash Matters to Texas Truck-Wreck Victims Although this wreck occurred in Houston, the evidence issues are similar to those that arise after serious 18-wheeler accidents throughout Texas. Dallas drivers regularly share major freight corridors such as I-20, I-30, I-35E, I-45, I-635, and U.S. 75 with tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles. A serious Dallas truck wreck can involve corporate defendants, commercial insurance policies, electronic truck data, maintenance records, cargo documents, and other evidence that may not exist after an ordinary car accident.
