Dallas County Car and Truck Wrecks Increased in Early 2026

Dallas County Car and Truck Wrecks Increased in Early 2026

According to crash data from the TxDOT CRIS Query, Dallas County roads remained dangerous during the first three months of 2026. From January 1 through March 31, 2026, Dallas County recorded 11,561 total crashes, compared to 11,246 crashes during the same period in 2025. That means Dallas County saw 315 more crashes in the first quarter of 2026, a year-over-year increase of approximately 2.8%.

For drivers, passengers, families, and injury victims, these numbers are more than statistics. Every wreck represents someone who may be dealing with medical bills, vehicle damage, missed work, pain, uncertainty, and pressure from an insurance company that wants to pay as little as possible.

At The Wooley Law Firm, we represent people injured in serious car wrecks, truck wrecks, and commercial vehicle crashes throughout Dallas County. Our job is to investigate what happened, identify every available insurance policy and responsible party, and fight for the maximum compensation available under Texas law.

Dallas County Crashes Increased From 2025 to 2026

The crash data shows several important trends from the first quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026.

Dallas County had 11,246 crashes in the first quarter of 2025 and 11,561 crashes in the first quarter of 2026. That is an increase of 315 crashes, or approximately 2.8%.

Commercial motor vehicle crashes also remained high. Dallas County had 980 commercial motor vehicle crashes in the first quarter of 2025 and 989 in the first quarter of 2026. That is an increase of 9 commercial vehicle crashes, or approximately 0.9%.

Traffic deaths increased as well. There were 63 traffic deaths in the first quarter of 2025 and 65 traffic deaths in the first quarter of 2026. That is an increase of 2 deaths, or approximately 3.2%.

The injury numbers are especially concerning. Dallas County had 5,147 people injured in crashes during the first quarter of 2025. In the first quarter of 2026, that number increased to 5,468 people injured. That is 321 more people injured, or approximately a 6.2% increase.

Suspected serious injuries increased even faster. Dallas County had 339 suspected serious injuries in the first quarter of 2025 and 377 suspected serious injuries in the first quarter of 2026. That is an increase of 38 suspected serious injuries, or approximately 11.2%.

The most concerning part of the data is that serious harm increased faster than crashes overall. Total crashes rose by about 2.8%, but injuries rose by about 6.2%, and suspected serious injuries rose by about 11.2%. In other words, Dallas County did not just see more crashes. It saw more people getting hurt, and more people suffering potentially life-changing injuries.

Why the Injury Numbers Matter

An injury crash is not just a police report or an insurance claim. It can mean ambulance transportation, emergency room treatment, surgery, physical therapy, pain medication, missed work, lost earning capacity, anxiety, depression, and long-term disruption to a person’s life.

Suspected serious injury crashes may involve broken bones, head injuries, spinal injuries, internal injuries, severe lacerations, surgeries, permanent impairment, or other major trauma. These are the types of cases where insurance companies often fight hardest because the damages can be substantial.

Insurance companies may try to settle quickly before the full cost of medical treatment, future care, lost income, pain and suffering, impairment, and long-term damages is known. An experienced Dallas car and truck wreck lawyer can help determine the true value of a claim before an injured person accepts less than they deserve.

At The Wooley Law Firm, we focus on proving the full impact of a crash. That means looking beyond the first medical bill or the first settlement offer. A serious injury claim may include past and future medical expenses, lost wages, reduced earning capacity, pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement, and other damages available under Texas law.

Commercial Vehicle Wrecks Remained a Serious Problem in Dallas County

Commercial motor vehicle crashes remained a serious concern in Dallas County. From January 1 through March 31, 2026, there were 989 crashes involving commercial motor vehicles, compared to 980 during the same period in 2025.

While that increase may seem small, truck and commercial vehicle wrecks often carry much higher stakes than ordinary passenger vehicle collisions. A crash involving an 18-wheeler, delivery truck, box truck, company vehicle, construction vehicle, or other commercial motor vehicle can cause devastating injuries because of the size, weight, and force involved.

Commercial vehicle cases are also more complex. A serious truck wreck may involve the commercial driver, the trucking company, the employer, a maintenance company, a broker or shipper, a vehicle owner, and multiple insurance carriers. These cases may also involve driver logs, black box data, dash camera footage, maintenance records, federal safety regulations, and corporate safety policies.

These cases require quick action. Evidence can disappear, vehicles can be repaired, electronic data can be overwritten, and witnesses can become harder to locate. A Dallas truck accident lawyer can move immediately to preserve evidence and pursue every available source of compensation.

The insurance company may have investigators working immediately after a serious truck wreck. Injured victims should have someone working just as quickly to protect their rights. The Wooley Law Firm can investigate the crash, preserve evidence, identify all responsible parties, and fight to recover the most compensation available.

Dallas County Traffic Deaths Increased in Early 2026

The most serious number in the data is the number of lives lost. During the first quarter of 2026, Dallas County recorded 65 traffic deaths, compared to 63 deaths during the same period in 2025.

For families who lose a loved one in a crash, the consequences are permanent. A fatal car or truck wreck may give rise to a wrongful death claim for damages such as loss of companionship, lost financial support, mental anguish, funeral expenses, and other losses recognized under Texas law.

In fatal crash cases, it is critical to act quickly so evidence can be preserved, witnesses can be identified, and every responsible party can be held accountable. A wrongful death case may involve a negligent driver, trucking company, employer, vehicle owner, maintenance provider, or another responsible party.

Families dealing with the loss of a loved one should not have to face the insurance company alone. The Wooley Law Firm can help families pursue accountability and compensation after a fatal Dallas County car or truck wreck.

Dallas County Roads With the Most Wrecks

The crash data shows that Dallas County wrecks are heavily concentrated on major highways, interstates, tollways, and commuter corridors.

In both the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, IH-35E had more reported crashes than any other listed Dallas County roadway. IH-35E had 954 crashes in early 2025 and 884 crashes in early 2026. Although that is a decrease of 70 crashes, IH-35E still remained the most crash-heavy roadway in the data.

IH-635 also remained one of Dallas County’s most dangerous corridors. In the first quarter of 2025, IH-635 had 699 reported crashes. In the first quarter of 2026, that number increased to 722 crashes. That is an increase of 23 crashes, or approximately 3.3% year over year.

Other roads with high crash totals in early 2026 included IH-30 with 636 crashes, IH-20 with 427 crashes, US-75 with 388 crashes, and Loop 12 with 363 crashes.

Several Dallas County roadways saw increases from the first quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026. SH-161 increased by 24 crashes, IH-635 increased by 23 crashes, Spur 366 increased by 21 crashes, US-67 increased by 18 crashes, IH-45 increased by 10 crashes, and IH-20 increased by 3 crashes.

One of the more notable percentage increases occurred on Spur 366, which rose from 82 crashes in Q1 2025 to 103 crashes in Q1 2026. That is an increase of approximately 25.6%.

When a crash happens on a major road like IH-35E, IH-635, IH-30, IH-20, US-75, Loop 12, SH-161, US-67, IH-45, or Spur 366, the injuries can be severe. These wrecks often involve higher speeds, multiple vehicles, disputed fault, commercial vehicles, and insurance companies fighting over responsibility.

A highway crash may require a more detailed investigation than a routine collision. Evidence may include the police crash report, witness statements, vehicle damage, roadway evidence, traffic camera footage, dash camera video, electronic vehicle data, and commercial driver records. The sooner an attorney becomes involved, the better the chance of preserving important evidence before it disappears.

Dallas Had the Most Crashes of Any City in Dallas County

The city-level data shows that crashes were heavily concentrated in Dallas and the largest surrounding cities in Dallas County.

The City of Dallas had 5,880 crashes in the first quarter of 2025 and 6,191 crashes in the first quarter of 2026. That is an increase of 311 crashes, meaning Dallas saw nearly one additional crash every day during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.

Dallas also represented a larger share of the countywide crash total in 2026. In Q1 2025, Dallas accounted for approximately 52.3% of all Dallas County crashes. In Q1 2026, that share increased to approximately 53.6%.

After Dallas, the cities with the most crashes in Q1 2026 were Irving with 1,022 crashes, Garland with 774 crashes, Mesquite with 582 crashes, and Grand Prairie with 543 crashes.

The five cities with the most crashes in both years were Dallas, Irving, Garland, Mesquite, and Grand Prairie. Together, those five cities accounted for 8,735 crashes in Q1 2025 and 9,112 crashes in Q1 2026. That means the top five cities saw a combined increase of 377 crashes year over year.

Several cities saw notable increases from Q1 2025 to Q1 2026. Dallas increased by 311 crashes, Mesquite increased by 79 crashes, Grand Prairie increased by 65 crashes, Duncanville increased by 31 crashes, and Garland increased by 27 crashes.

Other cities saw decreases. Irving dropped from 1,127 crashes in Q1 2025 to 1,022 crashes in Q1 2026. Even with that decrease, Irving still had the second-highest number of crashes in Dallas County.

For injured drivers and passengers, city-level crash data matters because every jurisdiction may involve different investigating agencies, crash reports, witnesses, traffic cameras, roadway conditions, and insurance issues. A wreck in Dallas, Irving, Garland, Mesquite, Grand Prairie, Duncanville, or another Dallas County city should be investigated quickly so key evidence is preserved.

Why Highway and Truck Wreck Claims Are Different

A wreck on a major Dallas County highway is often more complicated than a low-speed parking lot collision or minor city street accident. Highway crashes may involve higher speeds, multiple vehicles, lane changes, merging disputes, commercial trucks, unclear liability, severe injuries, and significant insurance coverage.

Truck wrecks and commercial vehicle crashes can be even more complex. The insurance company may have investigators on the scene quickly. The trucking company may control key evidence. The driver may have logs, electronic data, maintenance records, and safety history that must be preserved before it disappears.

Commercial vehicle claims may also involve larger insurance policies and multiple defendants. That can create more opportunity for compensation, but it also means the insurance company may fight harder. The trucking company may deny fault. The driver may blame another motorist. Multiple insurers may point fingers at each other. An experienced truck wreck lawyer can sort through those issues and pursue all available coverage.

That is why injured victims should be careful before giving recorded statements, signing insurance documents, or accepting a quick settlement. The first offer is rarely designed to reflect the full value of the claim. It is often designed to close the case cheaply.

A strong injury claim may include compensation for emergency medical treatment, hospital bills, surgery, physical therapy, future medical care, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement, loss of enjoyment of life, property damage, and wrongful death damages when applicable.

The goal is not just to prove that a crash happened. The goal is to prove the full impact of the crash and pursue the maximum compensation available.

How The Wooley Law Firm Helps After a Dallas County Car or Truck Wreck

After a serious wreck, the insurance company starts protecting its own interests immediately. Injured victims should do the same.

The Wooley Law Firm can help by investigating the crash, obtaining the police report, identifying witnesses, preserving evidence, reviewing medical records, calculating damages, negotiating with the insurance company, and filing a lawsuit when necessary.

In car wreck and truck wreck cases, compensation may depend on proving both liability and damages. Liability means proving who caused the crash. Damages means proving how badly the crash affected the injured person’s life. Both parts matter.

A serious injury case should account for more than the bills that have already arrived. It should also consider future medical treatment, future lost income, long-term pain, permanent impairment, emotional distress, and how the injuries affect the person’s ability to work, care for family, and enjoy life.

At The Wooley Law Firm, the goal is to build the strongest claim possible and fight for the most compensation available.

Injured in a Dallas County Car or Truck Wreck?

The data is clear: Dallas County continues to see thousands of crashes, thousands of injuries, and dozens of traffic deaths in just the first three months of the year. Crashes increased from early 2025 to early 2026, injuries increased even faster, suspected serious injuries rose sharply, and commercial motor vehicle wrecks remained a serious threat on Dallas County roads.

If you were injured in a Dallas car accident, Dallas County truck wreck, commercial vehicle crash, or highway collision on IH-35E, IH-635, IH-30, IH-20, US-75, Loop 12, SH-161, US-67, IH-45, Spur 366, or another dangerous roadway, you may have the right to seek justice and pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, mental anguish, impairment, and other damages.
