One person was killed and another was hospitalized after a Jeep Wrangler and 18-wheeler collided on State Highway 19 south of Canton in Van Zandt County early Tuesday morning, August 25, 2026.
According to KLTV, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 6:15 a.m. to SH 19 near County Road 2205. When emergency crews arrived, they found the passenger vehicle on fire and the truck driver trapped inside the 18-wheeler.
Canton firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire, but the driver of the passenger vehicle died. Firefighters were able to extricate the 18-wheeler driver, who was then transported to a hospital.
Preliminary DPS Investigation of the Canton 18-Wheeler Crash
According to KLTV's report of the preliminary Texas Department of Public Safety investigation, the Jeep Wrangler was traveling north on SH 19 when it entered the southbound lane and struck the 18-wheeler.
The investigation remains preliminary. Additional evidence may be needed to establish the complete sequence of events and determine whether any other circumstances contributed to this fatal collision.
A fatal wreck is devastating for the family of the person who died, and the truck driver who survived may also be dealing with significant physical injuries and the effects of a traumatic crash.
Evidence After a Fatal 18-Wheeler Crash
Even when an initial investigation identifies how vehicles collided, a serious commercial truck wreck can involve evidence that should be carefully reviewed and preserved.
Potentially important evidence may include:
The 18-wheeler's electronic control module or "black box"
Dashcam footage from either vehicle
Electronic logging-device data
GPS and telematics information
Crash-scene photographs and measurements
Vehicle event-data recorder information
Witness statements
DPS investigation materials
Cell phone records when relevant
Vehicle inspections following the crash

Determining Responsibility After a Head-On Truck Collision
The preliminary DPS information reported by KLTV indicates that the Jeep crossed into the opposing lane before the collision. That is an important investigative finding, but a complete evaluation may still require reviewing all available physical, electronic, and witness evidence.
The involvement of an 18-wheeler does not automatically mean that the truck driver or trucking company was responsible for a crash. In any commercial vehicle case, legal responsibility should be based on the evidence rather than the size or type of vehicle involved.
When someone dies in a collision, families may also have questions about available automobile insurance, wrongful death rights, and whether other parties or insurance policies may be relevant.
Fatal Truck Wrecks in East Texas
The Wooley Law Firm has covered other recent fatal commercial truck collisions in East Texas, including a passenger killed in an 18-wheeler crash on Highway 271 near Tyler and a Smith County collision involving two 18-wheelers that ultimately resulted in two deaths.
The firm also recently reported on an 18-wheeler wreck that shut down I-20 at FM 1641 in Talty, west of Canton along the I-20 corridor.

18-Wheeler Hits Concrete Wall on Eastbound I-30 at Ridge Road in Rockwall
A wreck involving an 18-wheeler was reported on eastbound I-30 at Ridge Road (FM 740) in Rockwall on Tuesday morning, August 25, 2026. According to the traffic information provided, the collision occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. The right eastbound lane was closed while emergency crews responded. Preliminary information indicates that the 18-wheeler struck a concrete wall. Additional information has not yet confirmed whether another vehicle was involved, whether anyone was injured, or what caused the truck to hit the barrier. Right Lane Closed After I-30 18-Wheeler Crash in Rockwall The truck wreck affected eastbound traffic on I-30 near Ridge Road during the Tuesday morning commute. With the right lane blocked, motorists approaching FM 740 could encounter slowing traffic, emergency vehicles, sudden braking, and drivers merging into the remaining lanes. Because the circumstances remain preliminary, it would be premature to conclude why the 18-wheeler struck the concrete wall. Investigators may need to determine whether speed, driver distraction, fatigue, an unsafe lane movement, mechanical problems, tire failure, roadway conditions, or another factor contributed to the crash. Evidence After an 18-Wheeler Hits a Highway Barrier When a commercial truck leaves its lane or strikes a concrete barrier, investigators may need to examine evidence beyond what is typically available after an ordinary passenger-vehicle collision. Potentially important evidence may include: The truck's electronic control module or "black box" Dashcam footage Electronic logging-device records GPS and telematics information Driver hours-of-service records Tractor and trailer inspection records Maintenance and repair records Tire and brake condition Dispatch and company communications TxDOT traffic-camera footage Crash-scene photographs and measurements The Wooley Law Firm represents people injured in Texas 18-wheeler and commercial truck accidents. Rockwall Truck Accident Evidence May Need to Be Preserved Some commercial trucking records and electronic data may not remain available indefinitely after a collision. If another motorist was injured in this I-30 wreck, an investigation may need to identify the truck driver, motor carrier, tractor and trailer owners, maintenance providers, and any other companies involved in operating or maintaining the commercial vehicle. The Wooley Law Firm has a dedicated resource for people injured in Rockwall 18-wheeler accidents. Ridge Road, also known as FM 740, is one of the major Rockwall roads discussed on that page. The fact that an 18-wheeler struck a concrete wall does not by itself establish why the collision occurred or who may be legally responsible. Those conclusions should be based on the complete evidence. Other I-30 18-Wheeler Wrecks Near Rockwall The Wooley Law Firm has reported on several other recent truck crashes along I-30 in and around Rockwall. In June, a critical 18-wheeler collision on I-30 at FM 3549 in Rockwall reduced eastbound traffic to one open lane. More recently, an 18-wheeler wreck on I-30 at Dalrock Road in Rowlett closed multiple westbound lanes. These incidents show why I-30 truck wreck investigations may need to focus not only on the crash scene but also on commercial trucking records and electronic evidence. Injured in an I-30 18-Wheeler Accident in Rockwall? If you were injured in a Rockwall 18-wheeler accident, I-30 truck wreck, Ridge Road crash, FM 740 collision, semi-truck accident, or other serious Rockwall County wreck, you may have the right to seek justice and pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, mental anguish, impairment, property damage, and other losses if the evidence establishes legal responsibility. An 18-wheeler rolled over on Highway 75 in front of New Waverly Intermediate School in New Waverly, Texas, on Tuesday morning, August 25, 2026. According to preliminary incident information, the truck wreck was reported at approximately 9:00 a.m. Early information did not confirm whether another vehicle was involved, whether anyone was injured, what cargo the truck was carrying, or what caused the tractor-trailer to overturn. 18-Wheeler Rollover Reported Near New Waverly School The location of the crash is particularly concerning because it occurred directly in front of New Waverly Intermediate School, where school traffic, buses, parents, students, and other motorists may be traveling during morning hours. An overturned 18-wheeler can create hazards well beyond the truck itself. Depending on the circumstances, a rollover can block lanes, spill cargo or fuel, scatter debris, and force other motorists to brake or maneuver suddenly. Because information about this crash remains preliminary, it would be premature to attribute the rollover to speeding, an unsafe turn, distracted driving, fatigue, cargo movement, tire failure, mechanical problems, or any other specific cause. What Causes an 18-Wheeler to Roll Over? A commercial truck rollover can occur for many different reasons. Investigators may need to examine factors such as: The truck's speed before the rollover Whether the driver entered a curve or turn too quickly Sudden steering or evasive maneuvers Improperly loaded or shifting cargo Tractor or trailer tire failure Brake or suspension problems Driver distraction or fatigue Roadway conditions The actions of another vehicle The fact that a tractor-trailer rolled over does not, by itself, establish negligence by the truck driver or trucking company. The cause should be determined from the complete evidence. Evidence After a New Waverly 18-Wheeler Rollover Commercial truck rollover cases can involve evidence that may not be available after an ordinary passenger-vehicle collision. Potentially important evidence may include: The truck's electronic control module or "black box" Dashcam footage Electronic logging-device records GPS and telematics information Driver hours-of-service records Tractor and trailer inspection records Maintenance and repair records Tire and brake records Cargo loading and securement documents Dispatch communications Witness statements Nearby school or business surveillance video Because this crash occurred near a school, investigators may also determine whether school security cameras or nearby surveillance systems captured the 18-wheeler before or during the rollover. The Wooley Law Firm represents people injured in Texas 18-wheeler and commercial truck accidents. Trucking Company Records May Need to Be Preserved If someone was injured in the rollover, an investigation may need to identify the motor carrier, truck driver's employer, tractor and trailer owners, cargo-loading company, and any maintenance providers involved with the commercial vehicle. Some trucking records and electronic data may not be retained indefinitely. Evidence-preservation efforts can therefore become important after a serious truck crash. The Wooley Law Firm handles 18-wheeler wreck cases throughout Texas and has experience investigating commercial vehicle collisions involving rollovers, lost control, cargo issues, unsafe driving, and disputed liability. Injured in a New Waverly 18-Wheeler Accident? If you were injured in a New Waverly 18-wheeler accident, Highway 75 truck wreck, Walker County semi-truck rollover, commercial vehicle collision, or another serious Texas truck accident, you may have the right to seek justice and pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, mental anguish, impairment, property damage, and other losses if the evidence establishes legal responsibility. Major Semi-Truck Crash on Northbound I-35W in Hill County Sends One Person to Fort Worth
A major crash involving a semi-truck and another vehicle was reported on northbound I-35W just north of the I-35 split in Hill County late Sunday night, August 23, 2026. According to preliminary incident information, one person was flown by Air Evac 51 to Fort Worth for medical treatment following the collision. Heavy delays remained on northbound I-35W while emergency crews worked at the scene. Early information did not identify the person who was injured, describe the severity of the injuries, or explain what caused the semi-truck wreck. Person Airlifted After I-35W Truck Wreck in Hill County The decision to transport an injured person by medical helicopter underscores the seriousness of the response to this Hill County crash. Interstate 35W carries significant passenger and commercial traffic north toward Fort Worth. A collision involving a semi-truck on this corridor can result in extensive emergency response, prolonged lane restrictions, and significant traffic backups. Because the investigation remains preliminary, it would be premature to attribute this wreck to speeding, fatigue, distraction, an unsafe lane change, mechanical failure, following too closely, or any other specific cause. Evidence After a Hill County Semi-Truck Accident A serious semi-truck collision can involve evidence that may not exist in an ordinary passenger-vehicle wreck. Potentially important evidence may include: The truck’s electronic control module or “black box” Electronic logging-device records Dashcam footage GPS and telematics information Driver hours-of-service records Tractor and trailer inspection records Maintenance and repair records Dispatch and company communications Crash-scene photographs Witness statements Police and EMS records The Wooley Law Firm represents people injured in Texas 18-wheeler and commercial truck accidents. Trucking Company Records May Need to Be Preserved When a person suffers serious injuries in an I-35W truck crash, investigators may need to determine who owned the tractor and trailer, which motor carrier was operating the truck, who employed or contracted with the driver, and whether another company was responsible for maintenance, cargo, or other aspects of the commercial vehicle's operation. Electronic trucking information and company records may not always remain available indefinitely. Early evidence-preservation efforts can therefore be important after a serious commercial vehicle collision. The involvement of a semi-truck, however, does not automatically mean the truck driver or trucking company caused the crash. Responsibility should be determined from the complete evidence. I-35W Is a Major Trucking Corridor Toward Fort Worth The crash occurred along the I-35W corridor leading north toward Fort Worth, where commercial truck traffic is common. The Wooley Law Firm has handled and reported on numerous serious truck wrecks along I-35W and surrounding North Texas highways. The firm maintains a dedicated Fort Worth truck accident lawyer resource discussing commercial vehicle claims and evidence preservation. Recent incidents covered by the firm also include an 18-wheeler crash on northbound I-35W at Rosedale Street in Fort Worth and a major I-35W wreck at Berry Street. Injured in an I-35W Semi-Truck Accident? If you were injured in a Hill County semi-truck accident, I-35W 18-wheeler wreck, commercial vehicle collision, Fort Worth-area truck crash, or another serious Texas highway accident, you may have the right to seek justice and pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, mental anguish, impairment, property damage, and other losses if the evidence establishes legal responsibility.
