A multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler shut down Southwest Loop 410 near Somerset Road in San Antonio, causing significant traffic delays as police, firefighters, EMS personnel, and other emergency responders worked at the scene.

According to KENS 5, the collision involved multiple passenger vehicles and an 18-wheeler. Traffic maps showed major closures on Loop 410 near Somerset Road while first responders assisted those involved, investigated the collision, and worked to remove the damaged vehicles. Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Officials have not yet released complete information regarding the number or severity of injuries or exactly what caused the collision. The crash remains under investigation.

Multi-vehicle crashes involving 18-wheelers can cause catastrophic injuries because a commercial truck may strike several vehicles during a chain-reaction collision. Investigators should determine the sequence of impacts and whether speed, following distance, distraction, fatigue, unsafe lane movement, mechanical failure, or another factor contributed to the wreck.

Critical evidence may include the police crash report, witness statements, dash-camera and onboard video, electronic logging device (ELD) data, engine control module (ECM) information, driver qualification records, hours-of-service records, maintenance and inspection documents, dispatch communications, cell phone records when appropriate, and accident reconstruction evidence. When several vehicles are involved, preserving evidence from each vehicle can be especially important in determining responsibility.

Jackknifed 18-Wheeler Crash on Southbound I-345 Ramp to I-30 Closes All Lanes in Dallas

A critical crash involving a jackknifed 18-wheeler on southbound Interstate 345 at the connection to Interstate 30 shut down the affected southbound lanes in downtown Dallas Friday. Traffic information showed the collision as verified and classified as critical. The 18-wheeler reportedly jackknifed on or near the southbound I-345 connection to I-30, and all lanes on the affected roadway were closed while emergency crews responded. Motorists traveling south through downtown Dallas toward I-30 should expect significant delays until the truck is removed and the crash scene is cleared. What Happened in the I-345 18-Wheeler Crash? Initial information indicates that the commercial truck jackknifed and blocked the southbound connection between I-345 and I-30. Additional details about whether other vehicles were involved, whether anyone was injured, and what caused the truck to jackknife have not yet been released. Because this is a developing crash investigation, it is too early to determine whether speed, braking, roadway conditions, mechanical problems, another vehicle, or another factor contributed to the wreck. What Can Cause an 18-Wheeler to Jackknife? A jackknife occurs when the tractor and trailer move out of alignment and the trailer swings toward the side of the tractor. Possible contributing factors may include: Sudden or improper braking Loss of traction Excessive speed for roadway conditions Trailer brake problems Tire failure Driver overcorrection Improperly loaded or shifting cargo Another vehicle entering the truck’s lane Wet or slick pavement The fact that a truck jackknifed does not, by itself, establish why the crash occurred. Evidence That May Matter After a Dallas 18-Wheeler Jackknife Crash A serious commercial truck wreck may involve evidence that is not typically available in a passenger-vehicle collision. Potential evidence can include: Electronic control module data Dash-camera footage GPS and telematics records Driver hours-of-service information Dispatch communications Tractor and trailer maintenance records Brake and tire condition Cargo-loading and securement records Crash-scene photographs and measurements Traffic-camera footage Witness statements This evidence may help investigators determine when the truck began to lose control and what happened immediately before the trailer swung out. 18-Wheeler Wreck Shuts Down Westbound I-30 at FM 3549 in Rockwall

Thursday, October 1, 2026 | Rockwall, Texas An 18-wheeler wreck on westbound Interstate 30 at FM 3549 in Rockwall shut down all westbound travel lanes Thursday afternoon, October 1, 2026. The collision was reported at approximately 1:45 p.m. All westbound lanes were closed while emergency crews responded to the crash scene and worked to address the commercial truck. FM 3549 is part of the heavily traveled I-30 corridor through Rockwall County, where ongoing highway construction has also affected traffic patterns in recent months. Rockwall County's current construction notices confirm active work along I-30 near FM 3549. What Happened in the I-30 18-Wheeler Crash at FM 3549? At this time, additional information about how the crash happened, whether other vehicles were involved, and whether anyone was injured has not been released. The closure of every westbound lane indicates that emergency responders needed the full roadway while handling the crash, recovering the truck, clearing debris, or investigating the scene. Because this is a developing incident, no conclusions should be drawn about fault until additional evidence becomes available. What Investigators May Examine After an 18-Wheeler Wreck A serious commercial truck crash can involve evidence that is not typically available after an ordinary passenger-vehicle collision. Potentially important evidence may include: Electronic control module data Dash-camera footage GPS and telematics records Driver hours-of-service information Dispatch communications Tractor and trailer maintenance records Brake and tire condition Cargo-loading and securement records Crash-scene photographs Witness statements Traffic-camera footage The investigating officer's crash report Investigators may also examine lane configurations, construction barriers, pavement markings, and traffic conditions if any of those factors were relevant to the collision. Another Recent 18-Wheeler Crash at I-30 and FM 3549 This is not the first recent commercial truck crash reported near this Rockwall interchange. On September 3, 2026, another 18-wheeler wreck on westbound I-30 at FM 3549 resulted in the closure of all westbound lanes. Driver Killed After Pickup Hits HPD Patrol Vehicle at 18-Wheeler Crash Scene on Eastex Freeway

A driver was killed after crashing into a Houston Police Department patrol vehicle while officers were blocking traffic at the scene of an earlier 18-wheeler crash on the Eastex Freeway near the North Loop. According to ABC13, the original incident involved an 18-wheeler carrying approximately 30,000 pounds of honey. The truck crashed near the outbound Eastex Freeway ramp at the North Loop and lost its load, forcing crews to spend hours clearing the roadway. ABC13 Houston About four hours later, while HPD officers were still blocking lanes around the scene, a pickup truck crashed into the rear of a patrol vehicle. The pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene. An HPD officer was transported to a hospital and was expected to recover. ABC13 Houston What Happened in the Eastex Freeway 18-Wheeler Crash? The series of incidents began when a semi-truck crashed and spilled part of its cargo onto the roadway near the North Loop. ABC13 reported that the 18-wheeler was carrying roughly 30,000 pounds of honey when it crashed and lost the load. The resulting cleanup required the roadway to remain restricted for several hours. ABC13 Houston Authorities have not publicly released enough information to determine what caused the 18-wheeler to crash or whether another vehicle was involved in that initial collision. Fatal Secondary Crash at the Truck Wreck Scene Police were still controlling traffic around the commercial truck crash when the second collision occurred. HPD told local media that a woman driving a pickup truck approached the closure at a high rate of speed and struck the rear of an HPD patrol vehicle. She died at the scene. The officer inside the patrol vehicle suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening or stable. FOX 26 Houston Police were continuing to investigate the fatal crash, including what occurred immediately before the pickup struck the patrol vehicle. Authorities had not determined whether intoxication played a role. FOX 26 Houston Why Secondary Crashes Can Happen After an 18-Wheeler Wreck A major 18-wheeler crash can create hazards that continue long after the initial impact. A disabled tractor-trailer, spilled cargo, emergency vehicles, lane closures, and sudden traffic backups can all change normal traffic patterns. Drivers approaching the scene may encounter stopped vehicles or emergency personnel with little warning. In a secondary crash investigation, important questions may include: How far in advance the lane closure was visible Whether emergency lights, cones, flares, or other warnings were present The pickup driver's speed before impact Whether the driver attempted to brake Visibility and roadway conditions Traffic conditions approaching the closure Whether distraction or impairment played any role Dash-camera or traffic-camera footage of the collision Those issues must be evaluated from the evidence rather than assumed from the fact that a crash occurred inside an emergency scene. Evidence From the Original 18-Wheeler Crash May Also Matter The earlier commercial truck collision created the conditions that required the highway closure, so investigators may separately examine why the semi-truck crashed and lost its load. Potential evidence could include: Electronic control module data Dash-camera footage GPS and telematics records Driver hours-of-service information Cargo-loading and securement records Tractor and trailer maintenance records Brake and tire condition Dispatch communications Crash-scene photographs Witness statements The fact that cargo was spilled does not by itself establish negligence. Investigators would need to determine whether the cargo was properly loaded and secured and what caused the truck to crash in the first place. Multiple Investigations May Be Necessary The initial 18-wheeler crash and the later fatal pickup collision are related in location and timing, but they involve different questions. Investigators may separately determine: Why the 18-wheeler crashed and lost its load. Whether the resulting road closure and traffic-control measures were properly established. Why the pickup truck entered the blocked area and struck the HPD patrol vehicle. Responsibility for one event does not automatically establish responsibility for the other.
