A driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash on southbound State Highway 121 in Grapevine Friday morning.
According to the Grapevine Police Department, the crash happened in the 700 block of southbound North State Highway 121. Police said the vehicle left the roadway into the center median between the northbound and southbound lanes before striking a guardrail.
The vehicle then continued approximately 35 feet before coming to rest near railroad tracks. The driver, who was the only person inside the vehicle, died in the crash.
What Happened in the Fatal Highway 121 Crash?
Police said the vehicle left southbound Highway 121 and entered the center median before striking a guardrail.
After the impact, the vehicle continued approximately 35 feet and came to rest near railroad tracks. Authorities confirmed that no passengers were inside the vehicle.
The cause of the crash has not yet been released, and police have not identified what caused the driver to leave the roadway.
There were no continuing road closures when police provided their update, although temporary lane closures could be necessary while crews repair the damaged guardrail.
What Evidence May Matter in a Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash?
Although a crash involves only one vehicle, investigators may still need to determine why the vehicle left the roadway.
Potentially important evidence may include:
Electronic vehicle data
Tire marks and roadway evidence
Vehicle steering and braking systems
Guardrail damage
Dash-camera or nearby surveillance footage
Cellphone records when relevant
Roadway and lighting conditions
Witness statements
Crash-scene measurements and photographs
Investigators may also examine whether a mechanical problem, another vehicle, roadway condition, medical emergency, or other circumstance contributed to the vehicle leaving the highway.
Why a Single-Vehicle Crash Does Not Always Mean Only the Driver Was Responsible
A single-vehicle collision does not necessarily establish why the crash occurred.
Depending on the evidence, an investigation could examine whether another vehicle forced the driver off the roadway, whether a defective vehicle component contributed, or whether a dangerous roadway condition played a role.
At this time, Grapevine police have not announced the cause of this crash, so no conclusions should be drawn about responsibility.

Pilot Killed in Small Plane Crash Near Hicks Airfield in Fort Worth
Pilot Killed in Small Plane Crash Near Hicks Airfield in Fort Worth Wednesday, October 7, 2026 | Fort Worth, Texas A pilot was killed after a small airplane crashed near Hicks Airfield in northwest Fort Worth Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026. The crash happened at approximately 9:50 a.m. near West Bonds Ranch Road and Thatcher Road, southeast of Hicks Airfield. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that only the pilot was aboard the aircraft. Fort Worth Fire Department officials later confirmed that the male pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity had not been released at the time of the initial report. What Happened in the Fort Worth Plane Crash? Emergency crews responded to the area around 10 a.m. after reports that an aircraft had gone down. Video from the scene showed the small airplane badly burned in a grassy area near the roadway. Power lines were also down near the crash site, and the collision started a small grass fire that firefighters quickly extinguished. Officials had not determined where the aircraft was coming from or where the pilot was attempting to go. Bonds Ranch Road was closed between Willow Springs Road and Business 287 while authorities investigated the scene. Aircraft Identified as a Lancair IV-P FAA registration records reviewed after the crash identify the aircraft as a Lancair IV-P, an experimental amateur-built, fixed-wing, single-engine airplane manufactured in 2000 and registered to Plane Metrics LLC of Fort Worth. The fact that an aircraft is classified as experimental does not by itself establish that its design, construction, maintenance, or condition contributed to a crash. NTSB to Investigate Fatal Fort Worth Plane Crash The FAA confirmed that the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation into the crash. A fatal aviation investigation may examine issues such as: Aircraft maintenance and inspection history Engine and flight-control systems Pilot qualifications and recent flight history Weather conditions Air traffic control communications GPS and available flight-tracking data Fuel and weight information Wreckage and impact patterns Nearby surveillance or witness video Whether any mechanical failure occurred before impact The presence of downed power lines may also become part of the investigation as authorities determine whether the aircraft contacted the lines before or during the crash. Why Preserving Aircraft Wreckage Matters Unlike many roadway crashes, aviation investigations can depend heavily on detailed examination of the aircraft wreckage. Investigators may document the engine, flight controls, propeller, electrical systems, fuel system, and other components before wreckage is moved or altered. Maintenance logs, aircraft records, and communications before the flight can also become important in determining what happened. At this stage, authorities have not announced a cause of the crash. Wrongful Death Claims After a Fatal Aviation Accident A fatal airplane crash can potentially involve civil liability if evidence ultimately shows that negligence or a defective product contributed to the accident. Depending on the facts, an investigation could potentially examine an aircraft owner, maintenance provider, component manufacturer, aircraft manufacturer, or another party. Those possibilities are fact-dependent, and there is currently no indication that any particular person or company caused this Fort Worth crash. Driver Charged in Fatal SMU Student Crash
A Dallas woman charged in connection with the 2023 crash that killed Southern Methodist University student Honor Wallace had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.294% in testing performed after the collision, according to testimony from a toxicology expert at her ongoing criminal trial. Lynlee Pollis, 27, is charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in connection with the September 24, 2023 crash. Prosecutors allege Pollis was intoxicated, speeding, and ran a red light before her Lexus SUV struck the Volkswagen Jetta driven by 19-year-old Wallace at Monticello Avenue and the North Central Expressway service road in Dallas. Wallace was killed, and her passenger was seriously injured. Toxicologist Testifies BAC Was 0.294% Toxicology chemist Brittany Welch testified Thursday that testing performed hours after the crash showed Pollis had a 0.294% blood-alcohol concentration, nearly four times the 0.08% level Texas law defines as intoxicated for purposes of driving offenses. Welch testified that a person would likely have consumed approximately six to 11 standard-sized alcoholic drinks, or three to five larger drinks or doubles, to reach that level. The defense is disputing the intoxication evidence. NBC 5 reported that defense attorneys have challenged how the blood evidence was collected and handled and have argued that Pollis did not appear intoxicated despite acknowledging that she was speeding and ran the red light. The charges remain allegations, and Pollis is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until she is convicted. What Happened in the Dallas Crash That Killed Honor Wallace? The collision occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. on September 24, 2023. Wallace was traveling east on Monticello Avenue and entered the intersection with the North Central Expressway service road. Prosecutors allege Pollis was traveling north on the service road in a Lexus SUV, entered the intersection after the traffic signal had already turned red, and struck Wallace’s Volkswagen Jetta. Evidence presented at trial reportedly indicated that Pollis was traveling well above the posted speed limit before impact and that Wallace’s vehicle was sent briefly airborne by the force of the collision. Wallace died from her injuries. Her passenger survived but suffered serious injuries. Red-Light Crashes Can Create Powerful Liability Evidence A fatal intersection crash can involve several different sources of evidence beyond the police crash report. In a Dallas red-light collision, potentially important evidence may include: Traffic-signal timing records Intersection surveillance footage Dash-camera video Vehicle event-data recorder information Cellphone records Witness statements Crash-scene measurements Vehicle speeds before impact Toxicology evidence Receipts and records showing alcohol purchases or consumption When liability is disputed, these independent sources of evidence can become especially important in determining which driver had the right of way and what occurred in the seconds before impact. Drunk-Driving Crashes Can Involve Civil Claims Separate From Criminal Charges A criminal prosecution and a civil personal-injury or wrongful-death claim are separate proceedings. The criminal case focuses on whether the State can prove the charged offenses beyond a reasonable doubt. A civil case focuses on whether a person or entity is legally responsible for the injuries or death and what damages resulted. Texas also recognizes certain claims involving businesses that serve alcohol. Under the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, a provider may potentially face civil liability when it was apparent at the time of service that a customer was obviously intoxicated to the point of presenting a clear danger to themselves and others, and that intoxication was a proximate cause of the damages. Whether those requirements are met depends on the evidence in a particular case. Evidence From a Criminal Trial May Also Matter in a Civil Case Testimony and evidence developed during a criminal trial can sometimes become important in related civil litigation. That may include: Toxicology results Expert testimony Police investigative records Surveillance video Statements made after the crash Speed and vehicle-data evidence Witness testimony concerning alcohol consumption Bar or restaurant records A civil investigation may also examine issues that are not necessary to resolve the criminal charges, including insurance coverage and whether another person or business may share responsibility. Read CommentaryFatal Accident Under I-35 Bridge in Dallas
One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash on I-35E near Camp Wisdom Road in southern Dallas early Monday morning, September 28, 2026. Dallas Police said officers and Dallas Fire-Rescue responded just before 2:30 a.m. to the area of South R.L. Thornton Freeway and East Camp Wisdom Road after a passerby called 911. Dallas Fire-Rescue located one person at the scene and pronounced the victim dead. Police have not publicly identified the person who died, and investigators have not yet explained what caused the vehicle to crash. Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Near Camp Wisdom Road The collision occurred along South R.L. Thornton Freeway, which carries I-35E through southern Dallas, near East Camp Wisdom Road. Police have confirmed that only one vehicle was involved. Authorities had not released information identifying: the type of vehicle involved; which lane the vehicle had been traveling in; whether the vehicle struck a barrier, bridge structure, or another object; whether speed was a factor; whether the driver lost control before the crash; or whether a mechanical or roadway issue contributed. Those questions remain part of the investigation. Driver Pronounced Dead at the Scene Dallas Fire-Rescue found one victim following the crash and pronounced that person dead at the scene. The victim’s identity had not been publicly released as of the latest reporting. Earlier traffic information classified the collision as a major crash and showed southbound I-35E main lanes affected near Camp Wisdom Road. That traffic classification did not establish the seriousness of the injuries at the time, but subsequent reporting now confirms that the collision was fatal. What Can Cause a Single-Vehicle Freeway Crash? A single-vehicle collision does not necessarily establish why the driver lost control. Depending on the evidence, investigators may examine factors such as: vehicle speed; driver distraction; fatigue or impairment; sudden steering or braking; tire failure; brake or steering problems; roadway debris; pavement or construction conditions; another vehicle that may have caused an evasive maneuver; and visibility or lighting conditions. There is currently no verified information establishing that any of these factors contributed to Monday morning’s crash. What Evidence May Help Explain the Collision? Even when only one vehicle is physically involved, investigators may rely on several sources of evidence to reconstruct what happened. Potential evidence may include: TxDOT traffic-camera footage; dashcam recordings from passing vehicles; nearby surveillance video; the vehicle’s event-data recorder; photographs and measurements from the crash scene; tire marks and roadway debris; vehicle damage; 911 calls; witness statements; and mechanical inspection of the vehicle. Electronic vehicle data may sometimes provide information concerning speed, braking, throttle position, and other vehicle activity immediately before impact. Why a Single-Vehicle Crash May Still Require Investigation A single-vehicle crash can initially appear straightforward, but the absence of a second impacted vehicle does not necessarily explain why the crash occurred. For example, another motorist could potentially cause a driver to swerve without making contact, or a mechanical failure could cause a vehicle to leave its lane. Those are only possibilities, however. Police have not publicly indicated that another driver or a mechanical problem contributed to this crash.
