An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his motorcycle collided with the rear of a Honda Civic on westbound I-20 near Bowman Springs Road in Arlington early Saturday morning, September 26, 2026.
Arlington Police said officers responded at approximately 1:00 a.m. The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and found lying on the shoulder of the highway. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. Police identified him as Landon Corbia Murphy, 18. Fox 4 News
The Honda Civic driver was also taken to a hospital with injuries that police said were not believed to be life-threatening. Fox 4 News
Motorcycle Struck Rear of Honda Civic
According to Arlington Police, the motorcycle collided with the rear of a Honda Civic while both vehicles were traveling on westbound I-20 near Bowman Springs Road.
The impact caused the motorcycle rider to be ejected. The Honda then struck construction barriers in the area. Fox 4 News
Investigators preliminarily believe the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred. That remains part of the ongoing investigation and should not be treated as a final determination of every factor that contributed to the collision. Fox 4 News
Construction Barriers Were Also Struck
Police said the Honda Civic struck construction barriers after being hit by the motorcycle.
That makes the roadway configuration potentially relevant to the overall reconstruction. Investigators may need to examine the location of the barriers, lane configuration, lighting, vehicle positions, and available sight distances in addition to the movements of both vehicles.
The fact that construction barriers were involved does not establish that construction conditions caused or contributed to the crash.
What Evidence May Matter in This Fatal Motorcycle Crash?
Potentially important evidence may include:
traffic-camera footage;
dashcam recordings;
nearby surveillance video;
vehicle event-data recorder information from the Honda;
motorcycle electronic data, if available;
crash-scene photographs and measurements;
roadway debris and tire marks;
construction-zone plans and barrier placement;
witness statements; and
physical inspection of both vehicles.
The location and severity of the damage may also help investigators determine the relative positions of the motorcycle and Honda immediately before impact.
Speed May Be an Important Issue
Arlington Police have said investigators believe the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed. Fox 4 News
Speed can be evaluated through physical evidence, video, electronic vehicle information, impact damage, skid or tire marks, and crash-reconstruction calculations.
However, a preliminary police assessment does not necessarily resolve every civil-liability issue. A complete investigation may still evaluate traffic conditions, roadway configuration, the movements of the Honda Civic, construction conditions, and whether either driver had an opportunity to avoid the collision.
Another Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Arlington
The Wooley Law Firm has reported on other serious motorcycle crashes in the Arlington area, including a prior motorcycle and 18-wheeler crash in Arlington and other fatal freeway incidents in North Texas.
The firm also recently reported on multiple injuries in a major I-20 crash near US 287 in Arlington. That August collision was unrelated to Saturday morning's fatal motorcycle wreck.
Fatal Motorcycle Crashes and Wrongful Death Claims
A fatal collision can involve both a police investigation and a separate civil investigation.
If the evidence ultimately establishes that another person's negligence contributed to a death, certain surviving family members may have rights under Texas wrongful-death law.
At the same time, the fact that another vehicle was involved does not establish negligence. Civil responsibility depends on the complete evidence.

Motorcycle Crash Near White Rock Lake Results in Fatality
One person was killed Wednesday evening in a crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle near White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum in East Dallas. The collision was reported at approximately 7:22 p.m. near Garland Road and East Lawther Drive on September 23, 2026. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities had not publicly identified the person who died or released a detailed account explaining how the collision occurred. Fatal Crash Near Garland Road and East Lawther Drive The wreck occurred near Garland Road and East Lawther Drive, along the eastern side of White Rock Lake and near the Dallas Arboretum. The Dallas Arboretum is located at 8525 Garland Road, and East Lawther Drive provides access to portions of the White Rock Lake area. Because investigators have not yet released the sequence of events, it is not clear which vehicle had the right-of-way, how fast either vehicle was traveling, or what happened immediately before impact. What Evidence Could Help Explain the Crash? Fatal motorcycle collisions often require a detailed investigation before responsibility can be determined. Potentially important evidence may include: surveillance video from nearby businesses or properties; dashcam footage; Dallas Police crash-scene photographs; witness statements; vehicle event-data recorder information; motorcycle and passenger-vehicle damage; roadway debris and tire marks; traffic-signal or intersection information; cell phone records when legally relevant; and measurements and reconstruction evidence collected at the scene. Video can be particularly important when a collision occurs along a busy urban roadway because it may show lane position, speed, braking, turning movements, or whether a vehicle entered another driver's path. Investigators Have Not Yet Determined Fault The involvement of a motorcycle and another vehicle does not establish which driver caused the crash. Depending on what investigators find, important questions could include whether either driver failed to yield, made an unsafe turn or lane change, was distracted, was traveling at an unsafe speed, or failed to keep a proper lookout. Those are issues for the evidence to answer. No conclusion about fault should be drawn merely from which vehicle struck the other or from the severity of the outcome. Fatal Motorcycle Crashes in Dallas Motorcycle riders have significantly less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles, which can make collisions especially dangerous. The Wooley Law Firm has previously reported on other fatal Dallas motorcycle collisions, including a motorcycle crash in Dallas that left one rider dead. That incident involved different circumstances and is unrelated to Wednesday night's crash. Wrongful Death Issues After a Fatal Motorcycle Accident If evidence ultimately shows that another driver's negligence caused or contributed to a fatal motorcycle collision, certain surviving family members may have rights under Texas wrongful death law. The civil investigation can be separate from the police investigation and may involve securing video, electronic vehicle information, witness testimony, insurance records, and other evidence. Wylie Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Collision
A 42-year-old Wylie motorcyclist was killed after a collision with an SUV near South Ballard Avenue and Elm Drive on Tuesday evening, September 22, 2026. Wylie Police said officers and Wylie Fire Rescue responded at approximately 6:00 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that a man was lying unresponsive in the roadway. Emergency crews attempted lifesaving measures, but the motorcyclist died at the scene. Police identified the victim as Anthony Mills, 42, of Wylie. The SUV driver remained at the crash scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police have not released additional information explaining how the collision occurred. Crash Occurred Near South Ballard Avenue and Elm Drive The fatal wreck occurred near the intersection of South Ballard Avenue and Elm Drive in Wylie. Wylie Police Accident Investigators and detectives with the department's Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities have not yet said which direction either vehicle was traveling, whether the crash occurred within the intersection, or whether speed, right-of-way, visibility, or another factor contributed. Driver Remained at the Scene Police said the driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Remaining at the scene is important, but it does not by itself determine who was responsible for a collision. Likewise, the fact that police have not announced charges does not resolve any potential civil liability questions. A complete investigation may still need to determine what each vehicle was doing in the seconds before impact. What Evidence May Matter After a Fatal Motorcycle Crash? Potentially important evidence may include: nearby home or business surveillance video; dashcam footage; witness statements; photographs and measurements from the crash scene; SUV event-data recorder information; motorcycle and SUV damage patterns; roadway debris and tire marks; traffic-control devices; roadway lighting and visibility; and cell phone records when legally relevant. Video evidence can be especially important when police have not yet released a detailed description of how a motorcycle collision occurred. Motorcycle Crashes Can Cause Catastrophic Injuries Motorcyclists have far less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles. A collision with an SUV can result in severe or fatal injuries even when the passenger vehicle itself sustains relatively limited damage. The Wooley Law Firm has recently reported on other fatal motorcycle crashes in North Texas, including a motorcyclist killed on Northeast Loop 820 in Fort Worth. These incidents are separate and are not known to be related. Wrongful Death Claims After a Fatal Motorcycle Collision When a motorcyclist is killed in a collision, certain surviving family members may have a wrongful death claim if the evidence ultimately establishes that another person's negligence or other wrongful conduct caused the death. A civil investigation can proceed separately from the police investigation and may involve reviewing vehicle data, video, witness statements, insurance coverage, and other evidence. Roanoke Officer Injured in Motorcycle Crash
A Roanoke police officer was critically injured in a motorcycle crash on State Highway 114 just west of I-35W early Sunday morning, September 20, 2026. Roanoke Police said officers were conducting traffic enforcement on SH 114 after receiving complaints about speeding motorcyclists near an event at Texas Motor Speedway. According to police, the officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist who allegedly fled. During the pursuit, both the officer’s police motorcycle and the fleeing motorcyclist crashed into another vehicle on SH 114. The officer was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The other motorcyclist was taken into custody and was also being treated at a hospital. Motorcycles Collided With Ford Transit Van Northlake Police provided additional details, stating that both motorcycles struck a 2023 Ford Transit van during the crash. The fleeing motorcyclist was reportedly from Lawton, Oklahoma. The roadway was closed until approximately 6:00 a.m. while investigators documented and diagrammed the crash scene. Northlake Police said it would continue the investigation and pursue any appropriate charges. Authorities have not yet released a complete reconstruction explaining the sequence of impacts or the speeds of the vehicles immediately before the crash. What Should Be Investigated After a Motorcycle Pursuit Crash? A crash involving two motorcycles, a police officer, a fleeing rider, and a third vehicle can require investigators to reconstruct several different movements and impacts. Potentially important evidence may include: police motorcycle camera or recording systems; body-camera footage; police radio and dispatch communications; dashcam footage; surveillance video from nearby businesses; vehicle event-data recorder information from the van; GPS or location data; witness statements; roadway measurements and debris; skid or tire marks; and the timing and sequence of each impact. The fact that a pursuit occurred does not by itself establish civil responsibility for every resulting injury. Investigators must determine what each person and vehicle did immediately before the collision. Why the Ford Transit Van May Be Important to the Investigation Because police say both motorcycles struck the same 2023 Ford Transit van, investigators will likely need to determine where the van was located, how it was moving, and whether its driver had any opportunity to avoid the collision. Damage patterns on the van and motorcycles may also help establish which motorcycle struck first, the direction of travel, and the approximate sequence of events. There is no indication in the current reporting that the van driver was accused of wrongdoing. Other SH 114 Crashes in the Roanoke Area The Wooley Law Firm recently reported a separate SH 114 crash at Byron Nelson Boulevard in Roanoke. That collision was unrelated to Sunday's police-motorcycle crash. The firm has also reported on other serious SH 114 motorcycle crashes elsewhere in North Texas, including a fatal wrong-way motorcycle crash in Irving.
