A 26-year-old Wills Point man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on County Road 3609 in Hunt County shortly after midnight on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded at approximately 12:05 a.m. DPS said a 2017 Ford Expedition was traveling south on County Road 3609 when the driver lost control, left the roadway, and struck a tree. The driver, identified as Corey Shane Tacker, died at the scene.
DPS described unsafe speed as a factor in its preliminary investigation. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may become available.
Ford Expedition Left the Road and Struck a Tree
The wreck occurred on County Road 3609 in Hunt County.
According to DPS's preliminary findings, the Expedition was southbound when the driver lost control and went off the roadway before colliding with a tree. Authorities have not released a complete crash reconstruction or additional information explaining the events immediately before the vehicle left the road.
What Should Be Investigated After a Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash?
Even when only one vehicle is involved, a thorough investigation can be important in determining exactly why a crash occurred.
Potentially relevant evidence may include:
vehicle event-data recorder information;
roadway measurements and tire marks;
photographs of the crash scene;
vehicle inspection findings;
tire and brake condition;
steering or suspension components;
roadway lighting and visibility;
weather and pavement conditions;
witness statements; and
available surveillance or dashcam video.
DPS's preliminary reference to unsafe speed does not necessarily answer every question about the crash. Investigators may still examine whether mechanical, roadway, environmental, or other factors contributed.
Can a Single-Vehicle Crash Involve a Civil Claim?
A single-vehicle collision does not automatically mean there is a viable claim against another person or company.
Depending on the evidence, however, some single-vehicle crashes can involve issues such as a defective vehicle component, negligent maintenance, a dangerous roadway condition, or another vehicle that contributed to the crash without making contact.
There is currently no public information indicating that any such factor contributed to this Hunt County wreck.

Car AccidentsMajor Crash With Entrapment Closes FM 1902 at CR 915 in Johnson County
A major collision with reported entrapment closed FM 1902 at County Road 915 Thursday morning. Multiple agencies were working at the scene, according to the initial incident report. FM 1902 was reported closed in the area. An exact crash time and reopening estimate were not available. The initial information did not identify the vehicles involved, confirm the number of people trapped, or provide details about injuries or hospital transports. The cause of the collision was not reported. Attorney Perspective: Investigating a Crash With Entrapment A report of entrapment describes a rescue concern, but it does not establish the severity of anyone’s injuries or explain how the collision occurred. Determining responsibility requires a review of the events before impact and the available physical evidence. An attorney reviewing a collision at FM 1902 and CR 915 may examine: Scene photographs and measurements documenting vehicle positions, debris, and roadway markings. Dashcam or nearby surveillance recordings showing the vehicles before impact. Witness accounts describing the sequence of events. Vehicle damage and available electronic data that may help explain the collision. Crash and emergency-response records documenting observations at the scene. These are general investigative considerations, not findings about the November 5 wreck. Preserving Records After a Johnson County Collision People involved should retain original photographs, video recordings, witness contact information, and insurance correspondence. Preserving photographs before vehicle repairs or disposal can help document damage that may later become relevant. If injuries occurred, medical records, bills, and documentation of missed work may help establish the collision’s effects. Towing receipts, storage charges, and repair estimates should also be kept together. A Dallas car wreck lawyer representing people throughout North Texas can review these materials, identify additional evidence to request, and evaluate potentially applicable insurance coverage. Read CommentaryCritical Incident Closes Southbound SH 161 Ramp to Westbound SH 183
A critical incident was reported on the southbound State Highway 161 ramp to westbound State Highway 183 at approximately 12:20 p.m. Thursday, closing the connecting ramp. The available information did not describe the nature of the incident or confirm whether it involved a vehicle collision. Injuries, emergency-response details, and a reopening estimate were not provided. The reported closure affected the connecting ramp. The initial information did not establish whether any SH 161 or SH 183 main lanes were also affected. Understanding the Initial Report The designation “critical incident” does not, by itself, establish that a crash occurred or that someone sustained serious injuries. Additional information is needed before drawing conclusions about what happened. For motorists, the reported closure meant the southbound SH 161 connection to westbound SH 183 was unavailable at the time of the alert. The report does not establish the ramp’s current status. Attorney Perspective if a Collision Is Confirmed If subsequent information establishes that the incident involved a collision, an investigation may examine available video, witness statements, vehicle damage, and the responding agency’s records. People involved in a wreck should preserve original photographs and recordings, witness contact information, and insurance correspondence. Towing documents and repair estimates may also help document vehicle damage. A Dallas car wreck lawyer can review the circumstances of a confirmed collision, identify relevant evidence, and assess potentially applicable insurance coverage. No conclusions about fault can be drawn from this initial ramp-closure report. Car AccidentsCollision Reported on Westbound US 175 at Simonds Road in Seagoville
A collision was reported on westbound US 175 at Simonds Road at approximately 8:20 a.m. Thursday. The initial information did not identify the vehicles involved, confirm whether anyone was injured, or specify lane closures. The cause of the wreck and the time the scene cleared were not available. Attorney Perspective: Investigating a US 175 Collision Understanding how a highway collision happened requires evidence about the events before impact. A reported crash location alone does not establish which driver was responsible. An attorney reviewing a Seagoville car wreck may compare the drivers’ accounts with independent evidence, including: Dashcam recordings showing vehicle movements and surrounding traffic. Scene photographs documenting vehicle positions, damage, debris, and roadway markings. Witness statements describing what happened before impact. The responding agency’s crash report and available supporting records. These are general investigative considerations. The available information does not establish any contributing factor in the November 5 collision. Preserving Evidence After a Seagoville Car Wreck Anyone involved should retain original photographs, recordings, witness contact information, and communications with insurance companies. Save the complete dashcam recording promptly because continued recording may overwrite relevant footage. Keep towing receipts, repair estimates, and photographs taken before repairs. If injuries occurred, medical records, bills, and documentation of missed work may help establish the collision’s effects. A Dallas car wreck lawyer handling cases in Seagoville can review these materials, identify additional evidence to request, and evaluate potentially applicable insurance coverage.
