An overturned 18-wheeler shut down westbound U.S. 290 at Eldridge Parkway in Houston on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

According to ABC13, authorities said the westbound lanes were expected to remain closed for hours while emergency crews worked to clear the scene. TxDOT Houston reported around 3:44 p.m. that the main lanes were not expected to reopen for multiple hours.

The Cy-Fair Fire Department said HazMat crews responded to help with a fuel spill. Five people were taken to the hospital, but officials said they were expected to be OK. Images from the scene showed the overturned 18-wheeler, pallets scattered across the lanes, and tire debris over the barricade. The cause of the crash was not immediately released.

Why This Matters

18-wheeler rollover crashes involving spilled cargo and fuel leaks require a thorough investigation. A Texas truck accident lawyer can review whether driver fatigue, distraction, unsafe speed, cargo shifting, improper loading, brake failure, tire failure, roadway conditions, or trucking company safety practices contributed to the crash.

Truck accident evidence can disappear quickly. Black box data, driver logs, inspection records, maintenance records, dashcam footage, cargo securement records, HazMat cleanup reports, vehicle damage, roadway debris, crash scene photos, witness statements, police reports, and crash reconstruction evidence may all be critical to determining what happened and who may be responsible.

Major 18-Wheeler Crash on Northbound I-35E at Colorado Boulevard Closes Three Lanes in Dallas

A major 18-wheeler crash on northbound Interstate 35E at Colorado Boulevard in Dallas caused significant lane closures early Sunday morning, October 4, 2026. The collision was verified at approximately 5:14 a.m. and involved a commercial tractor-trailer. Traffic information showed three northbound lanes closed while emergency crews responded to the scene. Additional information about other vehicles involved and possible injuries has not yet been released. What Happened in the I-35E 18-Wheeler Crash at Colorado Boulevard? The wreck was classified as a major collision involving an 18-wheeler on northbound I-35E at Colorado Boulevard. At this time, it is not known how the collision occurred, whether the truck struck another vehicle, or whether mechanical, roadway, or driver-related factors contributed to the crash. Because this remains a developing incident, no conclusions should be drawn about fault until investigators determine what happened. Why a Dallas 18-Wheeler Crash Requires a Different Investigation A serious commercial truck wreck may involve evidence that is not normally available after an ordinary passenger-vehicle collision. Potentially important evidence can include: Electronic control module data Dash-camera footage GPS and telematics information Electronic logging-device records Driver hours-of-service records Dispatch communications Tractor and trailer inspection records Brake and tire maintenance records Cargo and loading information Crash-scene photographs and measurements Witness statements This evidence can help establish the truck’s speed, braking, steering, and operation in the moments before a collision. Preserving the Tractor and Trailer May Be Important After an 18-wheeler wreck, the tractor and trailer may be towed from the scene and eventually repaired or returned to service. If the condition of the truck played any role in the crash, an inspection before repairs are made may help document tires, brakes, steering components, trailer equipment, lights, and other physical evidence. The motor carrier may also possess electronic records, onboard video, dispatch communications, and maintenance documents that could help explain what happened. A major multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler shut down eastbound Interstate 10 near North Graytown Road in the Schertz area Friday morning, October 2, 2026. The wreck happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. on I-10 East at North Graytown Road, according to Fox San Antonio. Several vehicles were involved, including an 18-wheeler. Authorities expected the eastbound lanes to remain closed for several hours while crews investigated the collision and cleared the roadway. KABB Additional information about injuries and the circumstances leading to the crash had not yet been released. What Happened in the I-10 18-Wheeler Crash Near Schertz? Initial reports confirm that the collision involved multiple vehicles and at least one 18-wheeler on eastbound I-10. The crash was serious enough to require a full closure of the eastbound lanes near North Graytown Road. Fox San Antonio reported that the closure was expected to continue for several hours. KABB It is not yet known which vehicle was involved in the initial impact or whether the collision developed as a chain-reaction crash. Because the investigation is still developing, no conclusions should be drawn about fault. Multi-Vehicle Truck Crashes Can Require a Detailed Investigation When several vehicles are involved in an 18-wheeler wreck, determining how the collision began can be more complicated than simply examining the final positions of the vehicles. Investigators may need to determine: Which vehicles collided first Whether traffic was slowing or stopped before impact The 18-wheeler's speed before the crash Whether the truck driver applied the brakes Whether a lane change contributed to the collision Whether another vehicle entered the truck's lane Whether mechanical or tire problems were involved Whether roadway or traffic conditions played a role Witness accounts, electronic vehicle data, and video recordings can be particularly important when reconstructing a multi-vehicle collision. Evidence After an I-10 18-Wheeler Wreck A commercial truck may generate evidence that does not exist in an ordinary car accident. Potential evidence can include: Electronic control module data Dash-camera footage GPS and telematics records Electronic logging-device information Driver hours-of-service records Dispatch communications Tractor and trailer inspection records Brake and tire maintenance records Cargo information Crash-scene photographs and measurements Witness statements When several vehicles are involved, investigators may also need to obtain electronic data and photographs from each passenger vehicle to determine the sequence of impacts. Why Preserving the 18-Wheeler Can Matter After a major truck crash, the tractor and trailer may eventually be towed, inspected, repaired, or returned to service. Before that occurs, evidence from the truck itself may help answer questions about braking, vehicle condition, tire failure, lighting, and the forces involved in the collision. The trucking company may also possess onboard video and electronic records that can help establish what happened in the seconds or minutes before impact. Injured in a Texas 18-Wheeler Wreck?
